Chaos broke out on the streets of Paris after PSG’s Champions League celebrations boiled over – with football ultras causing carnage and clashing with police.

Thousands of supporters flocked to hotspots around the French capital to toast their side’s thumping 5-0 victory against Inter Milan in Munich on Saturday night.

But grim footage shared on social media shows riot officers deploying tear gas and charging at thugs with their batons in skirmishes, while several fires also broke out.

One damning video showed several football fans running away from a burning car while  flames sent thick smoke billowing into the night sky.

According to local media, at least 81 individuals have been arrested.

Confrontations took place outside the Parc des Princes, where the one-sided final was being beamed on large screens, and on the Champs-Elysees. Police clad in full riot gear swooped on supporters who had thrown bottles and let off fireworks.

The party on the iconic Champs-Elysees took a dark turn, forcing officers equipped with batons and shields to scramble in a bid to disperse the crowds.

The ugly scenes during the historic match led Minister of the Interior Bruno Retailleau to claim that ‘barbarians have taken to the streets of Paris’.

Multiple incidents took place before the final whistle had blown, despite PSG taking a comfortable 2-0 lead into the half-time break after a dominant performance.

Fireworks also exploded on the ring road around the city after supporters ran in front of cars, disrupting traffic before the police arrived to intervene.

French firefighters were also called into action near the Parc des Princes with footage seemingly showing numerous bikes and mattresses on fire.

Plans to deploy 5,400 police officers and gendarmes around the capital were in place after the final was classed as a high-risk event by the authorities. In a bid to crack down on potential trouble, the area around the Arc de Triomphe was closed to traffic.

Several other roads were also shut off, including the Champs-Elysees.

Taking to X to comment on the disorder, a disguted Retailleau said: ‘True PSG fans are getting excited about their team’s magnificent performance.

‘Meanwhile, barbarians have taken to the streets of Paris to commit crimes and provoke law enforcement.

‘I have asked the internal security forces to react vigorously to these abuses.

‘I offer my support to the Police Prefect and all the police officers who are ensuring everyone’s safety this evening.

‘It is unbearable that it is not possible to party without fearing the savagery of a minority of thugs who respect nothing.’

Despite the formidable ring of steel, PSG’s official club shop on the Champs-Elysees was closed and barricaded for the day in a bid to avoid trouble brewing.

It was claimed the drastic measure was taken due to ‘looting fears’.

There were also unsightly clashes between supporters in Munich. Pre-match footage showed fights breaking out on public transport heading to the Allianz Arena.

Some supporters even threw stones at each other near the stadium, Bild claimed.

This is not the first time PS fans have run amok through the French capital.

Earlier this month a car was set alight by a gang of youths after PSG’s victory over Arsenal in the French capital.

The horrific aftermath was captured on video and plastered on social media in the early hours of Thursday following the Champions League semi-final game a few hours earlier.

Hooded French youths wearing Paris Saint Germain (PSG) shirts were reportedly also seen fighting with riot police on the Champs Elysée, and on nearby streets.

‘The worst incident so far involved a car apparently being driven into a group of PSG fans,’ said a local police source.

‘At least three supporters were injured, one seriously, and others were sent flying. A gang then chased the car, setting it on fire and leaving it to burn after they forced it to stop in a side street.’

One of them was seen being carried on a stretcher by first responders, according to French outlet Le Parisien.

After the car ploughed into crowds of people, dozens of football fans are said to have chased the vehicle.
