Queen Máxima of the Netherlands channelled old Hollywood glamour this evening as she joined husband King Willem-Alexander for a state banquet at the Presidential Palace in Cyprus.

Invited by President Nikos Christodoulides and first lady Philippa Karsera, the Dutch royals are currently in the Mediterranean country for a two-day state visit, which began on Tuesday.

The Argentinian-born Dutch queen, 53, looked stunning in a beaded crimson gown complete with a cape.

Cinched at the waist with a bejewelled belt, Máxima’s floor-length column dress flattered her svelte figure.

The mother-of-three wore her blond hair in a glamorous up-do, which only accentuated her film star aesthetic.

Brushed to one side and fastened at the back, her hairstyle added an air of sophistication to her look while her dazzling headband matched her statement diamond earrings.

Máxima’s natural radiance was enhanced by bronzer and her smoky eye make-up opened up her eyes.

In addition, she brightened her complexion with a berry-coloured, glossy tint worn on her lips.

King Willem-Alexander, 57, looked typically smart in a black tie attire, including a tuxedo, white dress shirt and black bowtie.

The Dutch royal couple were welcomed to the Presidential Palace in Nicosia, Cyprus, by President Nikos Christodoulides and first lady Philippa Karsera.

The president’s wife, 47, stunned in a long-sleeved, shocking purple gown, which she accessorised with a gold brooch, while the president looked dapper in a dark suit and tie.

She added a pair of blue satin heels to her ensemble along with a matching velvet clutch bag and leather gloves.

Máxima finished off her regal dress with a hat which had a statement sculptured bow and added a pair of silver and bright blue drop earrings, contrasting with her red nails.

Willem-Alexander was dressed in a pinstripe double-breasted navy suit with a light blue shirt and purple tie for the day.

After the welcome, the couple made their way through the presidential gardens with Máxima flashing her long legs as she strutted alongside the Philippa, who looked equally elegant in an off white asymmetric skirt suit.

Máxima then appeared on stage and listened to speeches by Willem-Alexander and President Nikos in the sunshine, at one point stopping to shield her eyes with a large pair of sunglasses.

They then paid their respects to Archbishop Makarios III, the first president of the Republic of Cyprus by laying a wreath at a statue dedicated to him.

Later in the day Máxima and Willem-Alexander inspected a military guard of honour at the presidential palace with the king taking time to speak to the soldiers.

The royal couple also enjoyed conversation with President Nikos and wife Philipa inside the presidential palace, with the two couples exchanging gifts including a Dutch vase decorated with orange flowers and a painting of two doves.

The royal entourage then enjoyed a visit to Cyprus’s House of Representatives and were welcomed by Chairwoman Annita Demetriou before speaking to other members of staff and guests.

Before leaving the royal couple made sure to sign the visitor book, with the King adding his name.

The two-day visit is focused on cooperation in the areas of security, academia, culture, and sustainability, and marks the solid relationship between the Netherlands and Cyprus, according to the palace’s website.

The royal couple touched down in Cyprus yesterday evening.

Máxima was all smiles as she disembarked the aeroplane, and it was no wonder as it was being piloted by Willem-Alexander himself.

The royal, who obtained his Private Pilot’s Licence in 1985 and Commercial Pilot’s Licence two years later, flew the aircraft and was photographed sitting in the plane’s cockpit upon arrival.

She looked typically fashionable in a sophisticated crimson robe-like coat, which revealed a hint of her paisley-patterned blouse.

Máxima completed her airport chic ensemble with classic knee-high brown leather boots.

Willem-Alexander looked equally dapper in a smart navy suit, matching tie, and crisp white shirt.
