An influencer broke down in tears after she was forced to hide in her local Co-op after a man allegedly followed and harassed her in London.

Liv Nevill, 27, shared footage of the terrifying moment the man allegedly ‘started shouting what he wanted to do to her’ after following her into the store, as she told her Instagram followers this is the ‘reality of being a woman’.

In the clip, Liv can be seen looking around anxiously while asking Co-op staff to check if it was safe for her to leave the store – only to discover the man was ‘hiding further down the street’.

Liv could then be seen crying because she felt ‘overwhelmed’ thinking about what might have happened if she hadn’t listened to her ‘gut’ and asked the staff member to double-check her surroundings before walking home.

After waiting another 10 minutes, the Co-op employee told Liv that the man ‘got on a bus’ and left, but she admitted she was still ‘too scared’ to walk back on her own.

It was only after a ‘lovely’ woman in the store ‘insisted’ on accompanying Liv that she felt brave enough to leave.

‘Thank God for women helping other women,’ she said. ‘I could go on for days about how much we have to think about how our day-to-day actions can keep us safe.’

Before long, the post was flooded with emotional comments from women who shared their own stories of experiencing harassment while walking alone at night.

The YouTuber filmed and posted the clip on Monday, as she explained: ‘A man was following me home so I went into the nearest shop, but he then followed me into the shop and started yelling what he wanted to do to me.’

‘I was so scared and overwhelmed, but then he continued to yell at the staff about me,’ she continued.

Liv told her followers that the staff at the Co-op store then told her he had left, but she had a ‘gut feeling’ he was still around.

‘Staff checked down the street, they then came back and said he was hiding further down the street,’ the text on her video read. ‘What if I hadn’t made them go double-check?’

Employees then advised Liv to wait another 10 minutes before Liv was told the man following her had gotten on a bus and left the area.

Liv, who could be seen wiping tears off her face, was then approached by a woman doing her grocery shopping who ‘said she’d wait with me’.

Footage of the pair walking together showed the woman telling Liv she hoped someone would do the same for her if she were in a similar situation.

‘One act of kindness can restore someone’s entire faith in humanity,’ Liv ended the video on a hopeful note.

She also urged other women to ‘trust your gut instinct with everything’.

The comments section was filled with similar stories from other women, with one writing: ‘I had this same thing happen to me in broad daylight walking home.

‘I’d just moved to the area and wasn’t confident where I was, which didn’t help. He was threatening to “smash me up”,’ she continued.

‘I found the nearest people I could, which happened to be a couple with their horse (I live in a town, so this was surreal.) I stayed with them until I felt safe. I carried on, I could hear him again. This time he was standing at a window of a flat screaming at me.’

Another woman wrote: ‘I was fortunate when this happened in a grocery store, they called the police.

‘Unfortunately, it was during shift change, so it was a while before an officer could [take me] home, but the man was waiting in the parking lot.’

A third comment read: ‘This happened to me, but I had my twin baby daughters in a pram with me as well.

‘It was terrifying and I felt so exposed and vulnerable. I still think about the woman who escorted me back to the station so I could get the tram safely – she was absolutely lovely, but also I think would have lamped the fella if he had tried anything!’

Others praised the woman who walked Liv back, writing: ‘We are stronger together.’

Responding to social media users who urged Liv to report the incident to the police, she said she filed a complaint but felt it wasn’t ‘treated with any urgency’ in a follow-up video.

‘I’ve just been reported to Victim Support, whilst that man is still wandering the streets of London.’

Liv catapulted to fame after she began documenting her ‘Eat, Pray, Love’ adventures, including flying to the United States, to rediscover herself after her four-year relationship ended.

Her page is inspired by Elizabeth Gilbert’s popular novel, as Liv set out to ‘find my spark again’ after the breakup, like its protagonist.
