Cops spent just 15 minutes searching for a young Texas mother after a car crash – only for the woman’s devastated family to find her body in the same spot 37 hours later.
Jolie Pesina, 21, was driving to work in San Antonio shortly before 6am on November 17 when she crashed through a guardrail and into a creek, investigators said.
Records obtained by KSAT showed that Pesina’s iPhone used Apple’s Crash Detection system to repeatedly provide 911 dispatch with the exact coordinates of the crash.
‘The owner of this iPhone was in a severe car crash and is not responding to the phone,’ the message said before listing the exact coordinates.
However, audio obtained by the local news station revealed that the operator talked over the message.
Eventually, officers were dispatched to a nearby location and searched for approximately 15 minutes before clearing the call, according to dispatch audio.
Approximately 37 hours after the crash, Pesina’s family went searching for her and found her deceased in her vehicle at the exact coordinates provided by her phone.
‘I believe if they would have done their job, they would have found her, but they didn’t,’ Pesina’s mother, Mercy Villarreal, told the outlet.
Jolie Pesina, pictured, died after a car crash which saw her iPhone dial 911 to alert emergency services. But they spent just 15 minutes trying to find her, with Pesina’s devastated family discovering the young mom’s body in the same spot 37 hours later
The young mother was driving to work when she crashed through a guardrail and into a creek, and her iPhone sent police an alert to the crash with exact coordinates
‘I just feel like they failed her. And she was there by herself from Monday to Tuesday. And it really hurts.
‘They could’ve done more. They could have sent more policemen. They could have sent a helicopter. They could’ve sent dogs.’
Surveillance footage showed officers driving along the highway, just blocks from the crash.
Audio showed that one officer requested assistance from a helicopter to search the area, but that request was denied.
‘We didn’t find anything on the roadway. Is there any way that EAGLE is available just to check the wooded area off the highway?’ the officer asked.
Just minutes after the helicopter assistance was rejected, dispatch audio confirmed that officers called off their search after being told traffic cameras did not show signs of a crash while Pesina’s vehicle was just blocks away in the creek.
On November 18, 37 hours after the crash, Pesina’s family went searching for her at the exact coordinates provided by her phone.
Her boyfriend’s father called 911 and told the dispatcher, ‘We found the vehicle in a ditch.

Approximately 37 hours later, Pesina’s family went searching for her and found her deceased in her vehicle at the exact coordinates provided by her phone
‘We came looking for her. She’s deceased. She’s deceased,’ he said as people cried in the background.
An autopsy report from the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office determined Pesina died from blunt force injuries suffered in the crash.
However, the report does not indicate how long she survived after the crash. It does note that her head was above the water level when she was eventually discovered and showed no signs of drowning.
It remains unclear if Pesina could have survived her injuries had she been found sooner.
The Daily Mail contacted the San Antonio Police Department and the City Manager’s Office and the mayor for comment.
Pesina has a young daughter, according to a GoFundMe set up by her family.
‘She was in a terrible accident, and despite her iPhone sending out a crash alert, she was not found, not helped, not saved. Hours passed and she was still out there alone,’ the fundraiser said.
‘She left behind her baby girl, Amari, who still reaches for her mommy. A little girl who doesn’t understand why the person she loves most isn’t coming home.
‘Jolie was only 21 years old, with so much life ahead of her, so many moments she was supposed to share with Amari.’
