Freddy Brazier has admitted he raided the BBC show budget to buy drugs whilst filming Race Across The World back in 2024 with his dad Jeff Brazier.

Freddy, 22, who is the youngest son of the late Jade Goody, reflected on the experience as he confessed he ‘mentally wasn’t in the right place for it’.

During the show contestants are given a small budget from the BBC to survive on while racing across the country.

However now Freddy has revealed he took money from his and Jeff’s budget to buy weed and smoked on the beach in Brazil after struggling to cope on Mother’s day.

Appearing on The Terry Stone Connection podcast, Freddy explained: ‘It come at a bad time to be honest.

‘Like the week before the master interviews, I’d had quite an extreme episode and I calmed down by the time of the interviews.

‘But I think I’d come down from Birmingham. I was seeing a girl from Birmingham at the time and I had smoked up there the night before te master interviews like a d**khead after promising my dad I wasn’t going to come there being high.

‘But I lied, turned up there no sleep. Knackered. And I think I must have had bags under my eyes, because the amount of f**king makeup they put on me was a joke.

‘I almost forced myself to do it. I weren’t in the place mentally and when I knew that we were going to be filming over Mother’s Day as well, I was like, “oh f**k sh*t, I’m going to have cameras in my face. I want to be alone.”‘

He then recalled how he snuck out on Mother’s Day and smoked weed on the beach with a couple of locals.

He continued: ‘But we did do something very beautiful on Mother’s Day. We went swimming in the sea, watched the sunset, and there was actually a thing in the area on Mother’s Day that we went to where you clap as the sunset goes down. But it was really lovely and to be honest.

‘The same night, Mother’s Day night, I climbed out the hotel window and I remember the hotel lobby man saying, “this isn’t the safest area”.

‘I was like, I’m okay, I’m okay,” and I’ve gone to the beach and we’d seen these people before, they were couples and they make bracelets.

‘And they bought me a beer and I’ve taken some money out of the budget we were given and I’ve went and bought myself a three five [weed] in Brazil on Mother’s Day.

‘And smoked it with these two bracelet makers on the beach while looking at the stars.

‘And it was beautiful, but it was so wrong. And I was I was very selfish. And looking back and, reflecting as I’m speaking, I was very selfish to do so because that could have cost us the show.

‘But I feel like I needed that joint, honest to God, I felt like I needed that joint, otherwise I was getting kicked off the show anyways because I wasn’t in the greatest headspace and I didn’t want to be filmed on Mother’s Day.’

The Daily Mail has contacted Freddy’s representatives and Race Across The World representatives for comment.

Since appearing on the show Freddy has opened up about how he was sectioned amid mental health struggles and claimed grandmother Jackiey Budden got him hooked on drugs aged just 12.

He told fans in 2025 that he has been addicted to smoking from a young age and would be heading to rehab.

Speaking on the A Load Of Old Cobblers podcast, Freddy said while he didn’t try drugs for the first time with his grandmother Jackiey, 68, she was ‘definitely the person’ who got him addicted.

‘No it wasn’t with my nan [the first time] although my nan is definitely the person who introduced me to reefer and got me hooked. It’s one of those things, I was 12.’

He continued: ‘I’ve been smoking since I was 12, I’ve been to rehab, I’ve been sectioned, I’ve had manic episodes, I’ve been sectioned. There’s been a real journey and it’s been a tough one.’

Freddy also claimed that he had spent years fearful that Jackiey would end her life if he didn’t ‘prioritise’ their relationship, amid her ongoing feud with his father Jeff.

Freddy later announced on Instagram that he was going to a rehabilitation centre in Spain and was keen to seek treatment.

He said: ‘I’ve been smoking from the age of 12 and it’s time to stop it was a bad coping mechanism that turned into an addiction something I relied on and something that made me feel sane and somewhat okay.’

But days after the admission, Freddy posted again online saying he had changed his mind, writing: ‘You know what I don’t need rehab. I just need a holiday with a good group of boys or a retreat.’

Freddy lost his mother, former Big Brother star Jade, to cervical cancer in 2009 when he was just four years old.

Jeff has long insisted Jackiey is a bad influence on the troubled youngster – with the pair enduring a series of very public disputes over the years.
