Jurors have been sent away until tomorrow morning when prosecutor Riel Karmy-Jones KC is expected to set out the full details of the allegations against Brand.

The jurors have all been warned by the judge to ignore past reporting about Brand and the allegations of sexual misconduct he has faced.

‘Don’t carry out any research,’ Mr Justice Bennathan told them today. ‘Heaven knows what’s out there. If you want to, you could go and have a look – but only once you have returned your verdicts.’

Over the course of six minutes, 13 jurors were sworn onto the panel to decide Brand’s fate.

The four women and nine men included one reserve male juror who will be discharged once the prosecution has opened its case tomorrow.

As Brand arrived at Southwark Crown Court at just after 9.20am, he said ‘blessed, thank you very much’ in the direction of photographers and members of the press.

He wore a double-breasted grey suit, an unbuttoned shirt with a long tie, brown boots and sunglasses.

Flanked by his security guard, Brand looked at the cameras pointed at him before taking off his sunglasses as he walked up the steps towards the courthouse.

Brand, who was wearing a grey suit, white open neck shirt and matching thin grey scarf, entered the dock shortly before 10am.

Six of his friends of family were also in the public gallery, although his wife, Laura Gallacher, was not in attendance.

A group of 50 prospective jurors were first asked if they had seen a Channel 4 documentary or read a newspaper article concerning allegations about Brand in 2023.

The judge then dismissed six members of the jury panel who identified that they remembered seeing the media coverage.

It is expected that the jury selection process will continue today, when those on the panel will be sworn in.
