Amazing footage captured the moment an enormous tiger rested peacefully on a wall in a remote village in India.

The large animal sat on a brick wall in Athkona village, in the state of Uttar Pradesh, and drew the attention of a huge crowd of locals.

It was thought to have escaped from the Tiger Reserve Forest in Pilibhit district, and reportedly wandered into someone’s home on Monday night.

The tigress, which was reportedly injured, stood on a wall of a farmhouse seeking refuge, before lying down with its legs clinging to the sides.

Its presence reportedly caused panic in the village, and locals from nearby areas gathered to witness the unusual event, with some filming it on their phones.

The tigress is believed to be around two years old, the  the Indian Express reported.

Its home, Pilibhit Tiger Reserve, houses 127 animals, which include hog deers, leopards and blue bulls, as well as 326 bird species.

Forest department officials arrived at the scene on Tuesday and cordoned the area with a net.

The tiger was then tranquilised and safely captured by a team of forest officials after about ten hours on the loose, before being sent for a medical examination.
