One of Prince Christian of Denmark’s party guests may have been under the watchful eye of a fairy godmother last night, as the palace revealed she left behind a special item.

As the royal household continues its clean-up from the royal party of the decade to celebrate the future King’s 18th birthday, staff stumbled upon a single stiletto.

In a bid to return the shoe to its rightful owner, the Danish Royal Household revealed ‘Cinderella’ had somehow left the show at Christiansborg Castle.

The caption read: ‘When the guests at Her Majesty The Queen’s gala table yesterday had gone home, this lonely stiletto shoe was left at Christiansborg Castle. The owner is welcome to contact to get it back.

Royal fans went wild at the abandoned stiletto, claiming they hoped the young Prince may have found the love of his life at the ball.

Other royal fans hoped this would mark the beginning of a mission for the future King, which would see him travelling around the land and asking potential suitors to try on the shoe – mirroring the story in Charles Perrault’s tale.

Prince Christian, who is the eldest son of Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary, celebrated his 18th birthday at Christiansborg Castle on Sunday evening with hundreds of very special guests.

As royal families around Europe descended on Denmark to join the party, Prince Christian was joined by future monarchs including The Netherlands’s Princess Amalia, and Sweden’s Princess Estelle.

Earlier in the day, Christian delighted crowds who had gathered outside the Amalienborg Castle in Copenhagen to celebrate the heir to the throne’s 18th birthday.

Looking dapper in a grey checked suit and navy tie, Christian was in his element as he waved to crowds.

He was then joined by his father Crown Prince Frederik and grandmother Queen Margrethe – before his mother Princess Mary and siblings Princess Isabella, Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine joined him.

Australian-born Princess Mary looked smart in a powder blue coat dress to protect herself from a chilly Danish autumn, while Queen Margrethe opted for a bolder purple tone.

Ahead of the festivities, well-wishers gathered in Copenhagen and the royal family shared a series of heartwarming childhood photographs of Christian.

The previously unseen images, taken by the Prince’s parents documented a number of private memories.

The snaps featured a trip to Paris, visiting Australia, skiing, playing tennis and ‘special moments with Grandpa’ – the late Prince Henrik.

Other members of the royal family, including his cousin Count Nikolai, shared happy birthday messages to the future king.

The Danish Royal House also released an official birthday portrait of Prince Christian – taken by his mother – along with a schedule of events.

Meanwhile, flags were raised throughout the country to honour the future King.

For the first time, 15 October has been declared an official flag day. From now on, all state buildings and state ships in Denmark will fly the Dannebrog on Prince Christian’s birthday.

As royal fans hope for a blossoming romance between the Prince and the mystery Cinderella, the excitement follows rumours the future Danish King was engaged to his close friend, Princess Maria Chiara of Bourbon-Two Sicilies.

However, in August the Italian heiress put a stop to the rumours in a statement posted on Instagram.

She wrote: ‘I would like to set the records straight with regards to the unfounded rumour that has been circulating about me. Prince Christian and I share a close friendship.’

The glamorous socialite added that ‘at first, this situation made me smile’ as she further discussed the ‘inaccurate information’.

However, Chiara, the daughter of Prince Carlo, Duke of Castro, and Princess Camilla, Duchess of Castro, added: ‘I believe it is now time to put an end to this rumour. When important events will occur in my life, I will be happy to share them with you.’

Her statement read: ‘I would like to set the records straight with regards to the unfounded rumour that has been circulating about me. Prince Christian and I share a close friendship.

‘However, some inaccurate information has been disseminated. At first, this situation made me smile; however, over time, this rumour has exceeded the limits of common sense and has spiralled becoming at odds with reality.

‘I believe it is now time to put an end to this rumour. When important events will occur in my life, I will be happy to share them with you. While we all enjoy dreaming of fairy tales, what truly matters is reality.’

Speculation on whether the two were dating began in May when a group photo emerged on social media of the duo standing close together at the Monaco Grand Prix.
