An abandoned dog reduced to ‘skin and bones’ has made a remarkable recovery in just four days thanks to the dedicated efforts of his rescuer.
Niall Harbison, originally from Dublin but now based in Thailand, has become a beacon of hope for the nation’s abandoned and abused canines.
His personal mission is to rescue 10,000 pups each month across Thailand, a country known for its countless stray dogs scattered across more than 1,400 islands.
His efforts have led to the creation of the Happy Doggo charity, an organisation devoted to homing and improving the lives of neglected dogs.
Dog lovers across the world have praised Harbison, calling him ‘one of the best humans on the planet,’ after he recently shared the heartwarming journey of a dog, now named Lando, on his social media accounts.

Dog who survived for a week on narrow cliff ledge is rescued
The young dog – who is half-pitbull – was discovered on an unspecified Thai island, tied up on a short metal chain and left ‘starving to death’ after his owners moved away.
Locals had contacted Harbison’s team, reporting an ‘aggressive’ dog who appeared ill.
When Harbison arrived, it quickly became clear that Lando wasn’t aggressive but was frightened and weakened from starvation, as well as ‘protective’ of his area.
Describing Lando’s condition when found, Harbison wrote: ‘He’s all skin and bones, and we can’t imagine the hunger he’s endured in his past life.’
After cautiously feeding the dog a slice of meat, Harbison transported the canine to a vet, where the chain was removed, and the expert confirmed that the dog was not suffering from any illness.
From there, Lando – weighing only 14kg when he was found – was brought to Harbison’s sanctuary, where he was given his name after Formula One driver Lando Norris, who was competing on the day of the rescue.
The following four days marked a swift yet carefully monitored recovery for Lando, with Harbison and his team feeding him four to five small meals daily, while providing plenty of walks, care, and affection.

Lando, understandably ‘obsessed with food’ after his ordeal, had to be monitored closely to prevent him from overeating too quickly, a situation Harbison described as ‘dangerous’ given his condition.

The rescuer noted that the team had ‘never seen a dog try to eat as much, as fast, as he has’ – believed to be due to the dog fearing that each meal would be his last.
Despite the initial fear and trauma, Lando responded well to the care, sleeping 12 to 14 hours at a time to recover his strength. After just a few days, Harbison shared that Lando was “filling out a bit and feeling much better.”
One particularly touching moment in Lando’s recovery came when the dog was treated to a plate of fresh rotisserie chicken, devouring the meal in seconds, much to the delight of Harbison’s Instagram followers.
In response to the story, many have hailed Harbison as a hero, with one person writing on Instagram: ‘You sir are one amazing human being, thank you for everything you do for these precious little angels.’

A third said: ‘Can’t wait to see this good boy realise he’s now safe and loved. I’d love to see the previous owners banned from owning dogs.’
Meanwhile, on X, another dog lover wrote: ‘You are quite literally one of the best humans on this planet!! Day after day, atrocity after atrocity, you maintain this commitment with kindness and no bitterness.’
