An American journalist has broken down in tears live on air following Kate Middleton’s cancer diagnosis.

The Princess of Wales, 42, announced via a heartfelt video message on Friday that she had been diagnosed with cancer and is undergoing ‘preventative’ chemotherapy.

Reacting to the news live on Talk TV, presenter Kinsey Schofield held back tears as she slammed the public for being interested in Kate’s whereabouts in the weeks leading up to the shock diagnosis.

The reporter from Texas also said she’d lost ‘all faith in humanity’ and lambasted the ‘Kim Kardashians’ and ‘John Olivers’ of the world for ‘making fun of the situation’.

Speaking alongside British TV broadcaster Vanessa Feltz, she said: ‘I’m just so angry. I’ve lost all faith in humanity… I’m just really disappointed at the way we’ve treated her.

‘It feels like we’ve pushed her into having to make this statement. I’ve done news all over the world for the last two weeks and I’ve been asked all sorts of horrific questions about this woman’s privacy.

‘About her credibility [questions like] “is she a liar”, “did she lie about the photo”, “do I really think she photoshopped the photo”?

She went on to say that cancer was ‘so scary’ and upsetting’, and praised Vanessa for wielding a ‘joyful’ spirit on the TV platform.

She then said she was ‘mad’ at ‘Kim Kardashians’ and ‘John Olivers’ for ‘making fun of the situation’.

Kim Kardashian was recently slammed by fans for her ‘on my way to go find Kate’ Instagram post – days before the Royal announced she was battling cancer.

And British talk show host John Oliver prompted outrage last week after making a joke about the Princess of Wales, saying she ‘could have died 18 months ago’.

The journalist was visibly red in the face and fought back tears while coming to the  future monarch’s defence.

Vanessa too agreed that she was ‘horrified’ by the ‘extreme rudeness’ she countered daily during her job on Talk TV.

The presenter, 62, whose ex Ben Ofoedu, 51, was spotted out with new girlfriend Precious Muir in London this week, launched into a tirade against those spewing ‘malicious nonsense’ about the Princess.

She added: ‘I’ve been aghast at the way in which some imbecilic idiots who decide to write something malicious entirely of their own invention into their smartphones have somehow been an avalanche that’s gained traction and gained momentum.

‘Then sensible and credible journalists such as yourself, journalists at the BBC – my former colleagues – have somehow been compelled to give some sort of credence to this arrant nonsense by A – having to acknowledge that it exists and B – comment on it’.

She then offered her support to Kinsey and said if not for anchoring the news show she too would have broken down in tears.

In a heartfelt video message released on Friday, Kate spoke about the ‘huge shock’ after tests identified cancer following the surgery and the ‘incredibly tough couple of months’ her family have experienced.

The form of cancer has not been disclosed but the future Queen began a course of ‘preventative chemotherapy’ late in February, and is said to have a positive mindset for her recovery and is in good spirits, describing herself as ‘well and getting stronger every day’.

It is thought that the Princess made the decision to reveal the diagnosis herself but that it had the full backing of her husband despite his reported regret that she had felt compelled to do it.

On Saturday night, Kate said she felt ‘extremely moved’ by the widespread support which greeted the courageous announcement.

Kate’s cancer battle in her own words: The Princess of Wales’ emotional video statement in full

I wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you, personally, for all the wonderful messages of support and for your understanding whilst I have been recovering from surgery.

It has been an incredibly tough couple of months for our entire family, but I’ve had a fantastic medical team who have taken great care of me, for which I am so grateful.

In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London and at the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous. The surgery was successful. However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present. My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment.

This of course came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family.

As you can imagine, this has taken time. It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment. But, most importantly, it has taken us time to explain everything to

George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be ok.

As I have said to them; I am well and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal; in my mind, body and spirits.

Having William by my side is a great source of comfort and reassurance too. As is the love, support and kindness that has been shown by so many of you. It means so much to us both.

We hope that you will understand that, as a family, we now need some time, space and privacy while I complete my treatment. My work has always brought me a deep sense of joy and I look forward to being back when I am able, but for now I must focus on making a full recovery.

At this time, I am also thinking of all those whose lives have been affected by cancer. For everyone facing this disease, in whatever form, please do not lose faith or hope. You are not alone.

A Kensington Palace spokesperson said on Saturday: ‘The prince and princess are both enormously touched by the kind messages from people here in the UK, across the Commonwealth and around the world in response to Her Royal Highness’ message.

‘They are extremely moved by the public’s warmth and support and are grateful for the understanding of their request for privacy at this time.’

Yesterday, flowers were laid by well-wishers outside royal palaces, with a heartfelt note attached to a bouquet left at Windsor Castle capturing the sentiments of many.

Hashtags including ‘WeLoveYouCatherine’ and ‘GetWellSoonCatherine’ were trending on social media site X all day yesterday.

A host of famous faces have since rallied behind the Princess of Wales including Davina McCall, Kate Garraway and Fearne Cotton, who have dubbed her ‘brave’ and sent out their ‘thoughts and prayers’.

Amanda Holden, daytime TV presenter Lorraine Kelly and Welsh actress Catherine Zeta-Jones have also penned sweet messages to the Princess.
