Amy Winehouse’s ex-husband Blake Fielder-Civil was seen with a new teardrop tattoo on his face in tribute to the late singer ahead of the release of the controversial biopic, Back To Black.

The songstress, who tragically passed away in 2011 aged 27 from alcohol poisoning, drew a teardrop on her face when Blake was admitted to prison hospital following a suspected heroin overdose in 2008.

Blake debuted the new inking as he headed to a supermarket in Yorkshire on Thursday to pick up some tin foil and orange juice. He cut a casual figure in a Champion grey tracksuit and bomber jacket.

A teardrop tattoo is closely associated with gang and prison culture where it often indicates one has served time. The tattoo is known to also represent sorrow or loss.

Amy predominantly based the Back To Black album on her on and off relationship with Blake, 41, with whom she had broken up prior to its release in October 2006, where one of her hits was Tears Dry On Their Own.

He had left the then-rising star to pursue his previous ex-girlfriend, but in the end their short-lived separation helped inspire a batch of songs that explore themes of guilt, grief, infidelity, heartbreak and trauma in a relationship.

Catching on with a wide variety of people, Back To Black sent her celebrity star soaring on the heels of five hit songs: Rehab, You Know I’m No Good, Back To Black, Tears Dry On Their Own and Love Is A Losing Game.

The on-off couple ended up getting back together to get married in 2007 in Miami, but were pictured months later after a furious bust-up where it emerged they had been taking heroin.

The following year Blake, who has battled drug addiction in the past, landed in prison for eight months after admitting perverting the course of justice and GBH and he filed for divorce in 2009.

It comes as their stormy romance is set to be chartered in Sam Taylor Johnson’s Back To Black biopic.

Marisa Abela will portray Amy, while Skins actor Jack O’Connell will play Blake.

Last year, Blake said he’d have done ‘almost everything differently’ in their relationship as he marked what would have been Amy’s 40th birthday.

Blake, who rarely gives interviews, was asked by Good Morning Britain hosts Susanna Reid and Ben Shephard what he would have done differently. He replied: ‘Almost everything’.

He continued: ‘It’s sad but I wanted to say happy birthday to Amy. It’s devastating she’s not here. I think about her all the time, I thought about her this morning when I said my happy birthday to her, she was my best friend.

‘If it wasn’t for certain factors I think it could have been a different outcome. Everything happened very quickly for Amy. We were young.’

It comes after Amy’s father Mitch Winehouse, who is played by Eddie Marsan in the movie, caused shockwaves when it was revealed he is endorsing the film, which has come under fire for ‘ghoulish’ depictions of the star’s drug addiction and also filming her funeral.

The biopic of the star has drawn outrage from pals, with musician Neon Hitch, branding the film ‘ridiculous’ and ‘tasteless’, saying: ‘I feel very strange. Can you please all let Amy rest?’

Friends voiced their fury with her father, after he allowed ghoulish scenes of Amy’s drugs overdose to be filmed at her old flat. Last February, Marisa was seen with an oxygen mask as she left the property in north London.

The flat is now owned by Mitch, who also features in the scene, as Eddie was seen filming alongside Marisa and other actors playing paramedics.

The Back To Black biopic is set to hit screens on the 12 April.
