A Coldplay concert in Lyon has gone ahead despite torrential rain flooding the stadium with inches of water.

Shocking videos from inside the venue showed punters desperately holding tarpaulins above their heads as they sheltered from the downpour at the Groupama Stadium in the latest stop on the London band’s Music of the Spheres world tour.

Hundreds of standing fans looked exhausted under the hoods of heavy-duty coats and ponchos, while others had sacrificed their views to cover themselves in tent-like structures.

But even these hadn’t stopped them from getting soaked through – as rain from above the shelters cascaded onto those nearby and bedraggled hair matted around their bewildered faces.

And while they struggled to shelter from the rain, flood waters within the stadium could be seen to rise as fans splashed through the deep floods in fashion trainers.

A deep layer of water could be seen throughout Olympique Lyonnais’ stadium, which will welcome fans for football matches in the upcoming 2024 Olympics.

A later video of the gig, posted on Coldplay’s Instagram, showed that the rain had cleared up in time for Chris Martin to strut along the sodden stage in a t-shirt.

The wet weather did not seem to have completely dampened the spirits of their fans, who jumped up and down in their ponchos as they enjoyed the show.

Thousands packed the stadium, all wearing lit-up wristbands as they lit up the pitch in a wave of colour.

Doors opened for the sold out gig at 5pm, with the band set to appear at four hours later.

They were supported by Ronisia and Glass Onion star Janelle Monáe, who released her latest album The Age of Pleasure last year.

It comes after singer Martin, 47, is said to have made a secret split and reconciliation with Dakota Johnson, 34.

The couple, who have been together since 2017, are said to be ‘going strong’ as they each are busy with their individual careers.

But insiders claim they secretly separated after hitting a snag in their relationship, before discreetly reuniting.

A source told PEOPLE: ‘They’ve had ups and downs, but now they’re definitely back on.’

Johnson recently premiered her HBO series Am I OK? She also premiered her latest feature Daddio at the Tribeca Film Festival on Monday.

Martin is currently on the tail end of his Music Of The Spheres Tour with Coldplay, which began in March 2022 and ends in November with multiple dates in New Zealand.

The last time the low-key power couple were seen together was in February during a loved up trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

Then weeks later it was claimed that the two are ‘engaged’ back in March.

It was said at the time the Coldplay singer proposed to the actress ‘a while ago’ and has the full blessing of his ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow, 51, and their children Apple, 19, and Moses, 17.
