Christmas revellers descended on Britain’s high streets on Friday night for a festive booze up as the party season got fully underway.

Brits packed the pubs and clubs of Leeds, Cardiff and Newcastle in a variety of Christmas costumes and jumpers – some with perhaps too much of the festive spirit.

Despite the cold and wintery weather, restaurants and bars were filled to the brim with partygoers keen to kick the Christmas season off in style.

And it seemed the spirit of generosity and festive excess was also applied to their spending at the bar with some typically raucous behaviour on display.

In Leeds, groups of friends made the most of the city’s famous nightlife with some dressed in Santa outfits and Christmas jumpers.

Revellers were also pictured giving each other piggy backs through the streets while others posed for selfies in their festive costumes.

Another group sung along to a portable karaoke machine as they carried it through Leeds city centre.

Meanwhile in Newcastle, pubgoers were also in typically high spirits as they ventured to the city’s best bars and pubs to celebrate the approach of Christmas.

Some donned their best festive jumpers while others dressed up as cowboys and minigolfers.

Similar scenes also played out in Cardiff as revellers enjoyed Christmas drinks and office parties last night.

As the night developed, punters were seen clinging on to each other with some having to be carried through the streets after perhaps one tipple too many.
