Queen Mary of Denmark stunned in a deep blue gown as she attended a state banquet in Copenhagen tonight.

The event was held in honour of the president of Iceland, Halla Tómasdóttir, who is on a two-day visit to Denmark and arrived earlier today.

Mary, 52, looked elegant in her regal ensemble – which included a tiara and sash – as she entered the event with her husband, King Frederik, 56.

For the banquet, which was held at Christiansborg Palace in the national’s capital city, the mother-of-four opted for a full-length gown with a lace-style fabric top, and tiered silky skirt. The chic gown also featured an asymmetric neckline, which exposed one shoulder and a ribbon-style belt, cinching in her waistline.

She accessorised the look with a glittering tiara, diamond necklace abd diamond drop earrings, finishing off the ensemble with dark heeled pumps and a small clutch bag in the same colour as her gown.

Her make-up was flawless, with a fresh base, smokey eye, pink blush applied high on her cheekbones, and a pink lip.

Mary’s chestnut locks were pulled into an elegant up do, curled into a low bun at the nape of her neck, allowing the feature neckline of her frock to stand out.

Meanwhile, King Frederik looked dapper wearing full-dress uniform in blue, with gold epaulets, white gloves, and a cane.

Also at the event was Princess Benedikte, 80, the younger sister of Queen Margrethe, and King Frederik’s aunt.

She wore a chic full-length gown in a pale blue-lavender colour, pairing it with a diamond tiara and metallic heeled pumps.

Meanwhile, Tómasdóttir also looked stylish, donning a gold frock adorned with sparkling gemstones.

Tómasdóttir’s trip to Denmark marks Frederik’s first incoming state visit since he ascended the throne in January this year, following his mother Queen Margrethe II’s historic abdication.

The official engagement is also Tómasdóttir’s first state visit abroad since being sworn in as the 7th president of Iceland on August 1.

Earlier today, the royal couple greeted Tómasdóttir, 55, and her husband, Björn Skúlason, as they arrived at North Custom House in Copenhagen, kicking off the two-day visit.

The trip reaffirms the ‘historical ties and close relationship’ between Denmark and Iceland, a statement from the Royal House read.

According to the royal website: ‘The overall aim of an official visit is to establish, strengthen and promote links between the countries, including social, commercial and cultural ties.

‘Official visits to a country can be carried out by one or more members of the Royal Family. Often, official visits are combined with a business or cultural promotional campaign.’

Mary and Frederik welcomed the Icelandic presidential couple at the North Custom House, where they arrived by boat, before taking a coach ride to The Citadel together.

After meeting the Presidential couple, Mary and Frederik accompanied them to to The Citadel for a wreath-laying ceremony as Iceland’s new president waved to onlookers.

This was then followed by this evening’s state banquet at Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen.

The official engagement comes days after Queen Mary’s tour of Brazil.

Royal fans were left in stitches after photos emerged of Mary tucking into an Amazonian delicacy – before realising what she’s about to eat.

In footage shared from her four-day trip, which saw her visit the Amazon town of Manaus, the Queen sits down for an indigenous meal and looks eager to try it.

However, Mary looked surprised and slightly apprehensive after she was shown a picture of the traditional dish about to served for lunch at the Biatuwi restaurant – made of insects.

After the footage was posted on Instagram fan account @denmarksqueenmary, fans joked they would have done the same thing in the Queen’s position.

One person wrote: ‘Oh I love this! It would be exactly my reaction.’

Another fan said: ‘Wonderful Queen Mary’ with a laughing emoji.

During the trip, she visited Manaus, which is known as one of the most dangerous cities in the world.

She also stopped by at the National Institute for Amazon Research, where she had the chance to meet and feed a rescued manatee calf.

The queen wore a stylish Sandro dress for the occasion, completing the look with a pair of long dangling earrings.

She wore her glossy brunette tresses down at her shoulders and wore soft by glamorous makeup, accentuating her bright eyes and flawless skin.

In an Instagram post reflecting on the event, the royal family wrote: ‘The animal and plant life of the Amazon forest is something very special. About 10 percent of the world’s total biodiversity belongs right there, and yesterday Her Majesty the Queen got insights into the diverse life of the area.’
