Fans noticed Breel Embolo suffered a wardrobe malfunction after the Switzerland forward came off the bench to score in a 3-1 win over Hungary at Euro 2024.

In a game where their talisman Dominik Szoboszlai became the youngest captain in Euros history, Hungary struggled from the outset and Kwadwo Duah gave Switzerland the lead after just 12 minutes.

Switzerland continued to press forward throughout the opening 45 minutes and Michel Aebischer doubled their lead on the brink of half-time by netting a curling strike from outside the box.

However, the momentum swung dramatically in Hungary’s favour after the restart, and they appeared within touching distance of securing a point after Barnabas Varga’s equaliser.

With 15 minutes remaining, Murat Yakin brought Embolo on for Ruben Vargas and was rewarded for his faith in the 27-year-old.

As the game entered stoppage time, goalkeeper Yann Sommer punted a hopeful ball downfield which was promptly latched upon by Embolo who lifted his strike into the Hungarian goal to send the Swiss fans into pandamonium.

Supporters on social media noticed Embolo appeared to lose an article of clothing just as he was about to seal victory for his side.

One fan joked: ‘Embolo did well to keep running as his pants fell off..’

Another wrote: ‘Why’s Embolo’s pants just come off’

A further fan added: ‘At first I thought Embolo’s pants came off’

A fourth questioned: ‘What fell off Embolo? What is that?’

On closer inspection it emerged Embolo had been wearing a protective brace since being introduced in the closing stages that came off just as he was about to loop the ball over Peter Gulacsi.

But closer inspection revealed it was actually a protective brace he had been wearing

Last summer the Monaco striker suffered an injury to his cruciate ligament that threatened to put his career in jeopardy, and forced him to spend the majority of the campaign on the sidelines.

However, he managed to make a few cameo appearances towards the end of the Ligue 1 campaign, before announcing his return to international football in a fairytale manner at the RheinEnergieStadion.
