A heroic bystander leapt into action to rescue a Florida man from his burning Porsche.

David Calderon dragged the 74-year-old driver from the wreckage as flames engulfed the vehicle on a street in Clearwater.

Motorcyclist Calderon was on his way to work on November 7 when he spotted the blaze and wasted no time in trying to help.

‘I didn’t really think about it. I just reacted,’ he told WFLA.

Fire officials told the Daily Mail that a citizen was ‘an integral part of the rescue’.

Dramatic video captured the moment Calderon plucked the driver from the flames, as well as the valiant efforts of other eyewitnesses.

‘Get him away from the car,’ one witness yelled as the helpless man was dragged toward the sidewalk.

Others stopped traffic and directed Calderon and another unidentified witness who assisted him.

‘It was scary. It was really scary. You know, it wasn’t just, let me just help somebody. You know, it was really scary for us,’ Calderon told WFLA.

He added that the fire was extremely hot. Flames were shooting up both from under and inside the vehicle.

As soon as the elderly victim was safely off the road, his rescuers appeared with fire extinguishers, soothing the flames while they waited for help to arrive.

Clearwater firefighters handled the rest.

Some worked to put out the fire before it reached the fuel tank while others tended to the victim.

Thanks to the quick thinking of the bystanders, the driver escaped unscathed.

He was treated on the scene and taken to the hospital as a precaution.

Clearwater Fire & Rescue thanked Calderon and the rest of the witnesses who came together to save the man’s life.

‘Thank you to the hero citizens who helped save a man’s life after he was unable to get out of his burning car this afternoon,’ they wrote on social media.

‘And thanks to our crew members who responded to help the man get medical care and ensure the car didn’t explode from the flames enveloping it.’

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Experts said that it is important to turn off the engine and quickly exit the car at the sign of a vehicle fire.

The Daily Mail contacted Calderon for comment.
