One child is dead and another is in hospital after a house fire. 

The tragedy unfolded on White Admiral Way, in Hamstreet, Ashford, earlier today – seeing Kent Fire and Rescue Service rushed to the scene. 

Six fire engines and a height vehicle were raced to the semi-detached property, where crews worked to extinguish the blaze, which had spread throughout the home. 

Unfortunately, one child died at the scene, and another has been taken to hospital.

Photos of the scene show the charred remains of a home, with crews still battling to dampen hotspots.  

Ann Millington, KFRS’ Chief Executive, added: ‘Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with everyone affected by this tragic incident, especially the child’s loved ones.

‘We understand this will be a distressing time for the local community and support is available at a welfare hub set up at Hamstreet Village Hall.’

A statement released this evening said: ‘Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called today to reports of a house fire in White Admiral Way, in Hamstreet, Ashford.

‘Control operators sent six fire engines and a height vehicle to the semi-detached property, where crews worked hard to extinguish an intense fire, which had spread throughout the home.

‘Sadly, one child died at the scene, and another has been taken to hospital.

‘People living or travelling near the Hamstreet area are no longer being advised to close windows and doors. The incident has been reduced to two fire engines and crews are continuing to dampen down. 

‘Our Volunteer Response Team are in attendance offering crew welfare and support.’

An investigation into the cause of the fire is currently ongoing.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service said in a statement earlier this afternoon: ‘Crews are currently responding to a house fire in Hamstreet, Ashford.

‘People living or travelling near this area are being advised to close windows and doors due to smoke coming from the incident and to also stay away from the area.

‘Six fire engines and a height vehicle are currently in attendance and crews are working hard to contain the fire and extinguish the flames.

‘Please share this information with any loved ones in the area who may be affected but do not have access to the internet.’
