A man from the UK who moved to America has criticised online the tipping culture across the pond.
Akafi Ali, who is from London but now lives in Columbus, Ohio, said he does not understand why tipping is so huge in the country.
He said: ‘What the hell is tipping? I don’t get it. Tipping here, tipping this, tip tip tip. I’ve spent two months here and [it’s] tip, tip tip. Can I get a tip? Why do I have to pay you?’
Akafi said he doesn’t understand why companies seemingly don’t pay their workers enough to survive on and why their wages should fall on the customer and how much they tip.
The content creator said tipping culture shock has impacted him so much that he actually had a dream about tipping.

Tipping is now appearing more and more in the UK, with companies such as the Scotsman Group, who own various bars and pubs in Scotland, introducing a two per cent ‘American-style’ automatic charge on beverages.
Drinkers wanting to buy a pint of Camden Hells Lager at The Grosvenor Cafe would assume it costs £5.95, however, customers are charged £6.07. At The Social, a Pornstar Martini costs £10.71, despite it being advertised at £10.50.
Punters can ask for the service charge to be removed, but consumer experts warned that customers may be ‘oblivious’ to the extra cost.
Various eateries in London have also been upping the ‘discretionary’ 12.5 per cent service charge up to a whopping 15 per cent, which has almost reached America’s average tip rate of 20 per cent.
Some have said that the tipping culture in the UK is ‘getting out of hand,’ with others stating that being asked to pay extra for the bare minimum ‘infuriates them’.
Another thing Akafi said confuses him about America is how big everything in the country is, in terms of infrastructure and cars.
He said: ‘You guys have big roads, big cars, big people, you guys are just big. I am so confused. You guys have all this space for what? I don’t understand, I don’t get it.’
In a second video, Akafi said he does not understand why Americans have not travelled outside of the country and instead go on holiday to other states instead.

He asked why companies are not paying their staff and why they have to rely on the customer to make up their wage

Both clips racked up hundreds of comments with people commenting their thoughts on what Akafi was saying about the US
He said: ‘When I ask an American [if] they have been on holiday, if they’ve been to Europe and they say “no I’ve just been to other states like Miami and I’ve been to New York.”
‘What other country have you been to? No. I need Americans to maybe travel outside of America to see Europe, Africa, Australia. We need to travel outside.’
The TikToker questioned why some Americans refuse to travel to other countries and immerse themselves in other places.
Both clips racked up hundreds of comments with people commenting their thoughts on what Akafi was saying about the US.
One wrote: ‘This tipping situation is only an excuse for bosses not paying living wages.’
Another penned: ‘Learn about a country before you go visit, you’d say the same to us when visiting your country.’
Akafi then responded and said: ‘Well no! I will learn about it when I get there! Go for it.’
A third commented: ‘Tipping is something we don’t understand either. Don’t worry.’
A fourth said: ‘As a former bartender, at one point, I would have been offended by people who have a problem with tipping but the more I have thought about it and the more I have seen people speak about it, it is total bs.
‘Companies should their employees and make up for it and the worst is how there are jars everywhere now. I think it’s rude to have a tip jar.’
