This is the disgusting moment a butcher is caught trampling all over a pile of meat in the back of his delivery van.

The disturbing scene was captured by a shocked onlooker sitting in a car behind the van on the corner of Pelly Road and Stratford Road in Newham, east London.

The footage shows a man in a blue overcoat and black trousers clambering over a full compartment of animal carcasses while his colleague watches on.

The butcher attempts to dig a slab of meat from underneath the rest of the raw produce using his bare hands.

In doing so, he loses balance and stands on other carcasses, with his trainers on, for support.

Some of the pieces of meat look perilously close to dropping out of the back of the van as the butcher clambers around clumsily.

And throughout the grim display, his colleague watches on while holding a sheet of paper.

Discarded boxes in the back of the van go ignored with the meat instead stacked up on the floor of the van.

The unhygienic behaviour leaves two witnesses in the vehicle, parked behind the van, stunned.

One says: ‘Look at that, he’s got his feet all over the meat.

‘Only in Newham. Mad.’

The camera pans to show a large housing block right by the scene, while cars speed by.

There are three fast food restaurants in the close vicinity but it is not clear where the meat was heading to.

The clip has since received dozens of likes and comments from sickened social media users who called out the workers’ hygiene standards.

One user said: ‘Halal that.’

Another added: ‘This is why you wash your meat.’

A third commented: ‘But still, it’s disgusting how it’s handled.’

The Food Standards Agency’s (FSA) official guidance urges businesses to deliver food in a way that means it does not become unsafe to eat.

This means food that needs refrigerating must be kept cool during the delivery using an insulated box with a coolant gel or a cool bag.

Businesses are also told to avoid cross-contamination through packaging food securely.
