Jeffrey Epstein believed that newspaper magnate Sir Robert Maxwell – father of his girlfriend Ghislaine Maxwell – was assassinated by Mossad, according to one email.
Writing to an unknown recipient in March 2018, he quoted at length from a book which claimed Maxwell was bumped off by the Israeli spies for threatening to expose the work he had done for them.
He died in mysterious circumstances after falling from his boat, The Lady Ghislaine, off the Canary Islands in November 1991.
Shortly after his death, it emerged that he had looted around £450million from the Mirror Group Newspapers pension fund to prop up his collapsing businesses.
In Epstein’s emai,l he quoted a newspaper extract from the 2002 book The Assassination of Robert Maxwell: Israel’s Super Spy by Gordon Thomas and Martin Dillon, suggesting the Czech-born millionaire demanded £400m from the Israeli spymasters.
The extract ran: ‘He told them that unless they gave him £400million to save his crumbling empire, he would expose all he had done for them.
‘In that time, he had free access to Margaret Thatcher’s Downing Street, Ronald Reagan’s White House, to the Kremlin and to the corridors of power throughout Europe.
‘Maxwell passed on all the secrets he learned to Mossad in Tel Aviv. In turn, they tolerated his excesses, vanities and insatiable appetite for a luxurious lifestyle and women.

‘He told his controllers who they should target and how they should do it. He appointed himself Israel’s unofficial ambassador to the Soviet Bloc.’
Following his death, Maxwell, who was ruled to have drowned following a heart attack, was given a virtual State funeral on the sacred Mount of Olives in Jerusalem.
The service was attended by top Israeli dignitaries, including Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir and President Chaim Herzog, who delivered the eulogy.
The respected authors exposed the alleged role of Mossad in Maxwell’s death with well-sourced evidence.
The decision to eliminate him came after his ultimatum to the Israelis, who feared his mental health was deteriorating and was dependent on a cocktail of drugs.
According to the book, a four-man hit squad was dispatched to the Canaries while Maxwell, 68, and running out of options to plug the financial leak in his empire, was lured there on the promise of receiving his hush money.
Having blocked all communications from the huge yacht, the frog-suited assassins came alongside in a small boat and clambered aboard for what Maxwell believed would be a top secret meeting to discuss his payment.
Instead, two of the men held him while a third plunged a syringe into his neck with a small dose of ‘nerve agent’ to immobilise him, and he was quietly lowered into the water.

As Victor Ostrovsky, a former Mossad agent, told them: ‘On that cold night Mossad’s problems with Robert Maxwell were over.’
There are various reports suggesting that Epstein worked as a ‘money mover’ for Robert Maxwell in the 1980s, helping him hide funds. Former Epstein associate Steven Hoffenberg claimed he introduced the pair in the 1980s.
Ghislaine moved to New York shortly before her father’s death in 1991, and flight logs from that year show that she was already travelling with Epstein by that time and soon became his ‘main girlfriend’, as well as later, the ‘madam’ for his prostitution network.
