YouTuber Chunkz has sparked controversy after he said he would disown his child if they left the religion of Islam.

The television star, who has appeared on BBC programmes The Wheel, Weakest Link and Blankety Blank, made the controversial remarks while appearing on the What’s Your Mo? podcast.

Chunkz, whose real name is Amin Mohamed, was asked: ‘What is the one thing that would make you disown your child?’

Mr Mohamed, 29, said: ‘I can forgive a lot when it comes to my own yute…Something mental. Leaving the religion.’

‘You can’t do that one there. You know what I mean.’

The podcast’s presenter Chip wanted clarification, asking: ‘So if he wanted to not be Muslim you would disown him?’

The influencer was emphatic: ‘Yes. I would say “yo that can’t run for me”. You know what I mean.’

The Muslim star tried to reassure his host after his provocative statement, telling him: ‘Don’t get twisted. You can leave but you can also come back, you get it? But I feel like leaving the fold of Islam, I can’t par with you man. You know what I mean.’

‘I know I will always have that unconditional love. But I feel like having that want to love this person without being under the fold of Islam, I can’t par with that man.

Host Chip reassures him: ‘Cool. That’s a good answer.’

But viewers weren’t so impressed with the provocative statements from Chunkz who has over 4.6 million followers on Instagram, over 3.6 million followers on YouTube, and over 6 million followers on TikTok.

One wrote: ‘Abandoning/disowning a child because of religion is really wild! Am not with you on this one Chunkz sorry not sorry!’

Another detractor said: ‘This lacks intelligence or emotional maturity. Disowning your actual child on the basis of blind faith is diabolical parenting.’

One pointed out: ‘He talking about unconditional love yet he just set a condition for his love.’

Another critic of Chunkz wrote: ‘People are focusing on religion when the bigger picture is that you shouldn’t have children if you’re not ok with them being their own person. Your child is going to be whoever they want to be and you shouldn’t control or condemn that.’

But among the heated debate, some commenters agreed with Chunkz’s stance.

One wrote: ‘There’s nothing wrong with what he said. Nothing is more important than religion.’

Another said: ‘Non muslims crying as if we care.’

Aside from being a favourite on the television circuit, he is part of the Beta Squad on YouTube, whose members include Celebrity Traitors star Niko Omilana, and regularly takes part in the star-studded Soccer Aid.

The YouTube sensation was also the host of ITV cooking programme Bad Chefs, which featured ten takeaway fans who take part in cooking school in an attempt to swap easy takeaway foods for better home eating.

However, it was been reported that the series was cancelled in 2023 as it hasn’t brought in the ratings ITV had hoped it would.

The internet celebrity has also been friends with Love Island presenter Maya Jama for several years, and their friendship even sparked romance rumours.

But host Maya set the record straight and denied that she has gone on the ‘rebound’ with her pal Chunkz after her high-profile split from musician Stormzy.

In snaps from a 2024 ad campaign for Google’s Gemini, Maya could be seen laughing with Chunkz, and holding a bouquet of flowers.

But several of her followers seemed to get the wrong idea and took to the comments to question if the pair were dating.

‘My guy Chunkz always appears after split or breakup; Chunkz seen Stormzy’s story and was like now’s my chance,’ wrote one.

But Maya hit back, replying to one comment that read: ‘icl i feel like shes just using Chunkz as a celebrity rebound’.

She responded: ‘we are friends who filmed an advert together.. are you lot insane’ followed by a crying laughing emoji.
