- Chilling footage shows the drowned wreck of a ‘ghost boat’ off the Cornish coast
Chilling footage shows the drowned wreck of an empty ‘ghost boat’ which sunk off the coast of Cornwall.
The eerie clip shows a motor vessel named ‘Skomer’ alone on the sea bed near Penzance.
RNLI crews were called to the abandoned boat off Lamorna at 6.30am on July 11 as it slowly filled with water.
But they were unable to stop it sinking and shortly after, local fishermen reported two people in a small dinghy entered a harbour nearby and ran off.
That boat was found with its engine still warm in a search of the coastline.

It is clear that the boat has not been sunk long, with metal bars still looking rust-free and the paint on the 19-metre deck still clear
These first underwater images of the vessel were taken by diver and underwater photographer Charles Hood who located and dived the wreck the following day.
It appeared that the vessel had been stripped of some fittings and fixtures and the stern very badly damaged.
However, it is clear that the boat has not been sunk long, with metal bars still looking rust-free and the paint on the 19-metre deck still clear. The console in the cockpit also remains pristine.
A Coastguard spokesperson said: ‘Just after 6am on Thursday 11 July, HM Coastguard received report of an abandoned motor vessel with no persons aboard drifting off Lamorna in Cornwall.
‘The Penzance Coastguard Rescue Team and RNLI Penlee lifeboat were tasked to the scene, where the vessel was found to be sinking.

‘HM Coastguard searched the shoreline for evidence of persons who may have come ashore, and a tender was located.
‘Devon and Cornwall Police were contacted, and the owner of the sinking vessel was identified.
‘The owner confirmed that persons aboard the vessel had come ashore safely. The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) Counter Pollution Team was advised of the incident.’
With mystery still surrounding the fate of the ship, it joins a stink of ghost boats to appear in UK waters.

Last year, police had to cordon off a small boat which washed up on Colwyn Bay, North Wales, with no sign of any crew.
RNLI Llandudno said its search of the waters was ‘inconclusive’, but the Coastguard said it was confident four men who had been aboard the boat got ashore safely before the boat was discovered on the beach.
In October 2020, two boats washed up on the south coast, near Worthing, in the same morning.
A rigid-hulled, inflatable boat was spotted washed up on Littlehampton beach in the early hours of October 27, 2020, with a larger boat washed up further west.
After investigating the scene, the Littlehampton Coastguard said they found a third boat nearby with suggestions being that the boats had come loose from the harbour.
