A Good Morning Britain guest broke down in tears on Monday after revealing how £20 fake fat jabs killed her mum – leaving ITV viewers horrified.

Abbie and Ffion McGonigal appeared on the programme to raise awareness after her mother Karen passed away in hospital in May after being injected with ‘fake so-called skinny jabs’ from a beauty salon.

ITV’s health correspondent Rebecca Barry explained to viewers that Karen’s family are awaiting more test results, but believe that her death was down to the injections.

The journalist asked: ‘What would you say to anyone trying to get hold of these drugs likes somewhere from a beauty salon? What would your message be to them?’

Fighting back the tears, Abbie replied: ‘It’s just not worth it whatsoever, what it actually does to people.’

Ffion continued: ‘I bet hands and knees, please don’t.

‘How much it has affected our life, please don’t.’

Abbie said of her mum: ‘She had the biggest heart and would literally do anything for anybody.

‘If she was your friend, you were lucky.’

In recent years, weight loss injections such as Mounjaro and Ozempic have become a popular way for people to shed pounds.

For someone to take the jabs legally, they should should only be prescribed from a healthcare professional.

The NHS states: ‘Tirzepatide (Mounjaro), semaglutide (Wegovy) and liraglutide (Saxenda) are weight loss medicines that are taken as an injection.

‘They help reduce your appetite by making you feel full and slowing down the time it takes for your stomach to empty.

‘These medicines can only be prescribed by a healthcare professional alongside programmes that support you to lose weight and live healthier by making changes to your diet and physical activity.

‘You’ll need to eat a balanced, reduced-calorie diet and exercise regularly while taking these medicines.’

Abbie said: ‘I think that the people that are actually injecting people with this stuff, more needs to be done to them.

‘There’s so many people doing it, so many people selling it.’

Rebecca asked: ‘You think that the authorities were stricter on this, it would be a deterrent, and it could save lives?’

ITV told viewers that they understand that a woman has been arrested for manslaughter.

Some viewers rushed to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share their pure shock and heartbreak for the family.

‘£20 weight loss jab? Christ #GMB.’

‘Weight loss jabs at a beauty salon?!’

‘What were the injections she was given , lemon bottle ? Tell people.’

Karen, from Salford in Greater Manchester, was illegally administered the unlicensed drug in May.

In the months before her death, she had been struggling with her mental health and was ‘desperate’ to lose weight so she could ‘get her confidence back’ following the end of a long-term relationship.

Friends told her she would be able to buy medication at a local salon, leading Karen to get in touch with a beautician offering the jabs at £20 each.

The mother visited the beauty centre several times for what she was informed were Mounjaro injections – though the reality was much different.

Karen’s youngest daughter, Ffion, told ITV News the beautician had paused doing a woman’s nails so she could take her mother into a back room.

The 53-year-old was then injected with a syringe.

Ffion said: ‘No preparation, no cleaning, nothing. She’d give it to my mum, my mum would pay her, and she’d be out in three minutes.’

Karen started to lose weight but four days after her last injection she suddenly became unwell – in ‘agony’ with extreme stomach pains and struggling to breathe.

Ffion later called an ambulance after seeing her mother’s face turn ‘purple’ but tragically, the next time they saw each other Karen would not wake.

Karen’s three daughters were told there was nothing more doctors could do after two days in intensive care and her life support was turned off.
