A gunman ‘lay in wait’ for EuroMillions winner Jane Park’s gangster ex boyfriend before shooting him dead outside an Edinburgh pub on Hogmanay, it was claimed today.

Armed police raced to the Anchor Inn in Edinburgh’s Granton area after shocked revellers saw Marc Webley gunned down in the street outside ten minutes before midnight.

It later emerged that violent convict Webley, 36, had until recently been in a relationship with Miss Park, who famously won £1million on the EuroMillions in 2013 aged 17.

The gunman is still being hunted by police, who said the incident appeared to be a ‘targeted’ attack and ‘everything possible’ is being done to find those responsible.

Webley, a regular at the pub, was thought to have been out celebrating the New Year with friends and family when he was targeted in an apparently gang-related attack.

A source told the Scottish Sun: ‘It seems like it was by someone waiting who knew he’d be there. Webley is a regular in there so it was fair to assume he’d be there on Hogmanay.’

The source added: ‘Another guy was also shot and he’s in hospital fighting for his life.’

One local told the Daily Record: ‘I thought it was fireworks at first then saw all the blue lights, ambulances and armed police. It was bedlam just before the bells.’

Another said: ‘The police were on the scene really quickly after the shots were heard. People were screaming and all hell let loose.’

Police locked down Granton Road and Granton Crescent outside the pub after terrified nearby residents reported hearing gunshots around 11.50pm on Sunday night.

Webley’s older brother Don posted a picture of him on Facebook confirming his death and friends wrote their condolences underneath – including Miss Park, who posted a heart emoji. She later posted on social media that she has been left ‘absolutely devastated’ by the killing.

It is understood Webley left the Anchor Inn shortly before midnight and was shot outside.

A Police Scotland spokesman issued a brief statement saying: ‘Road closures are in place on Granton Road and Granton Crescent following an incident which was reported to police around 11.50pm on Sunday, December 31.

‘Officers are at the scene and closures will remain in place while enquiries continue to establish the full circumstances.’

At the time of his death, Webley was already a well known underworld figure.

In 2006, he was convicted of using a gun in a gangland-style ambush on a Kawasaki motorbike and jailed for 11 years.

Webley, who was 19 at the time, along with co-accused James Tant, then 21, were sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow after pleading guilty to attempted murder.

Their victim, Peter Simpson, was shot in the back near his Granton home. He was sprayed with five bullets from a handgun by Webley, who was wearing a balaclava, but only one round hit him.

After he was freed, Webley was jailed again for six months for trying to intimidate a man into handing over £1,000 at a garage.

In October 2022, Webley was cleared of two charges of attempted murder at the High Court in Edinburgh after being accused of trying to ram a car off the road. He denied repeatedly slamming his car into another vehicle carrying driver Richard Hughes and passenger Lyndsay McLaughlin while travelling at speeds of up to 65mph.

Ms McLaughlin gave evidence at the trial but said she was unable to identify their attacker, leading prosecutors to drop the charges.

By then, Webley had already survived an attempt on his life by two machete wielding thugs less than two miles from the Anchor Inn which left him with deep wounds requiring surgery.

His attackers, John Lucas, from Troon, Ayrshire, and Stuart Jess, of Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, were originally charged with attempted murder following the attack in Wester Drylaw Drive, Edinburgh, on March 9, 2021. Jess was later sentenced to five years and seven months and Lucas to six years in prison.

Webley confided in friends he had been expecting another attack, according to the Daily Record.

In November, Webley made headlines again when Miss Park, who achieved notoriety after becoming one of the UK’s youngest lottery millionaires and then blowing much of it on shopping and cosmetic surgery, posted a picture of the pair hugging in a bar.

The following day they were spotted enjoying dinner and drinks at an upmarket Edinburgh hotel.

But the couple split shortly before Christmas and yesterday, after learning of Webley’s death, she posted on her Instagram page: ‘I can’t believe I’m writing this.

‘We spoke yesterday. If I could cuddle you again and tell you everything is going to be ok, I would give anything to do it Marc.

‘The months we spent together you taught me some valuable things in life and I’ll never ever forget you. I am absolutely devastated. The best bed for you is up there my handsome.’

Police Scotland have been approached for further comment.

Jane Park famously won £1million in 2013 aged 17 before spending most of it on plastic surgery and shopping,

When she became Britain’s youngest EuroMillions winner, her first purchases were a Louis Vuitton handbag and a Chihuahua puppy.

Miss Park, now 28, also vowed to spend her winnings on a customised white Range Rover, a season ticket for her beloved Hibernian and a holiday in Ibiza with her friends.

In 2014 she starred in the BBC documentary Teenage Millionaire: The Year I Won the Lottery after a TV crew followed her for 12 months.

But by 2015 she returned to working in a chip shop and said she preferred holidays in Magaluf and Benidorm to hanging out in top resorts in exclusive locations.

Miss Park also bought a three-bedroom detached home in an estate on the outskirts of Edinburgh but quickly moved back with her family in Niddrie after feeling lonely.

In recent years she has built up a following on OnlyFans and claims to have made more than £25,000 selling topless photographs of herself.
