A frustrated resident has blocked a footpath with their car to stop parents from using a cul-de-sac as a drop-off point in a long-running row over school parking.

Residents of Meadowcroft estate in Bushey, Hertfordshire, have been clashing with parents who park on their road while dropping off children at St Hilda’s Preparatory School for Girls. 

The private school, where fees are £16,000 a year, is conveniently connected to the estate by a nearby footpath.

Despite the installation of ANPR cameras 18 months ago and the issuing of £100 fines, some parents have continued to park in the cul-de-sac. 

In response, graffiti reading ‘private road’ appeared at the entrance in July, and one resident has now resorted to physically blocking the footpath with their car.

A St Hilda’s parent, who received two fines totalling £120 for parking there last year, said: ‘We completely respect the residents’ right to privacy and we don’t want to intrude. 

‘Parents are genuinely worried for their children’s safety and we just want to take our children to and from school.’

The 41-year-old dad added: ‘Now we have to park on the other side and navigate quite an extremely busy road everyday.

‘I don’t think we cause any disruption by walking through the area.’

The ongoing tensions have reportedly led to further verbal clashes as parents continued to use the street for summer activities.

St Hilda’s Preparatory School and Hertfordshire County Council have been contacted for comment.
