A woman who craved sex just DAYS after her husband passed away following a horrifying brain injury has opened up on joining dating apps to find a lover – before launching her own for lonely widows.

Nicky Wake joined Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard on This Morning to reveal how she went looking for ‘physical comfort’ after the loss of her partner Andy.

Andy passed away after suffering a devastating heart attack, and while dealing with her grief, Nicky explained she began craving sex.

While she didn’t know it at the time, Nicky was suffering from a common phenomenon knows as ‘widow’s fire’ – which causes an all-consuming desire to have sex after the loss of the partner.

Looking for comfort online, Nicky found dozens of other widows experiencing the same symptoms on an online forum, admitting that while she found comfort from knowing she wasn’t alone, was shocked to see there was little to offer in solutions.

After joining dating site Tinder Nicky struggled to find other widows and widowers to connect with, prompting her to launch her own dating apps for the community.

She told Cat and Ben: ‘Andy was my soulmate, he was my rock, he was my everything – we met online, we were early adopters of that technology, and we had a whirlwind love affair, and got married and had a beautiful baby boy.

‘We were living the perfect life and then in July 2017, tragedy struck.

‘I came back from a business trip and he was saying he had these chest pains, so I rushed him to the doctors and they were saying it was just stress initially.

‘Two more visits to the doctors, we went back and they did an ECG and he was having a heart attack there and then – he got blue-lighted to hospital, he went into surgery and had three or four stents.

‘We thought we’d had a lucky escape, and [one night] he went to bed, he was snoring, which I don’t miss at all, and I went to sleep in the spare room which is the secret to any happy marriage.

‘I was awoken at 6am by a terrible sound, he was having another heart attack, it was so much worse than the one before and I did CPR for 40 minutes before the ambulance crew arrived.

‘He got rushed into ICU and put into a coma for two weeks… he had suffered a catastrophic brain injury which meant that he was completely and profoundly disabled.

‘We were told there was no hope of recovery, and there wasn’t going to be a happy ending – it was devastating.

‘He was in a nursing home for three years, which was awful, and then Covid hit the headlines in 2020 and I just knew it was the beginning of our end…’

While dealing with the devastating grief, another emotion soon emerged for Nicky, who admitted she then found herself met with intense ‘passion and desire’.

‘It came out of nowhere,’ Nicky continued. ‘It really threw me. I remember walking in the supermarket and smelling aftershave and feeling I’d come alive again.

‘It was bizarre – my mind was trying to make sense of the shock and seeking anything that felt like physical comfort. I couldn’t explain it, I was confused.’

Nicky went looking online for answers, where she found out she had ‘widow’s fire’ through a widows community group – and found dozens of others experiencing the same thing.

‘It wasn’t just me, there were men and women who were all feeling the same,’ Nicky added – which inspired her to launch her first dating site.

‘I went on Tinder and I was like, “Gosh, this is awful”, what I need is a widower,’ she added. ‘I thought there must be a dating app for widows and widowers, and there wasn’t.’

Nicky went on to launch Chapter2, designed for widows and widowers to find love, and WidowsFire, which is ‘all about the physical’.

It comes after This Morning’s Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary were left in shock as ITV contributor and vet Dr Scott Miller made a rude comment live on air.

The presenters joined Dr Scott live as he visited Chester Zoo, showcasing the impressive range of baby wildlife as he opened up on animal welfare in a series of video links.

During the wholesome animal-based segment, Alison, 51, and Dermot, 52, were left open-mouthed when the show’s resident vet accidentally asked the pair a VERY rude question, as footage played of a small deer.

The animal in question, called a Dik-Dik, is a species of small antelope housed at the zoo – and led to the hilarious on-air remark.

‘Can I show you my Dik-Dik?’ Dr Scott asked the pair, who appeared flustered and struggled to formulate a response to his cheeky question.

‘Yes, go for it, in for a penny in for a pound, Dermot finally managed to say as Alison chimed in: ‘Yes, show it to us.’

Brushing over the question, Dr Scott continued: ‘Have a look at this gorgeous little creature, born just a week ago and in just one day, was up and erect enough to wander about the enclosures… what a clever little Dik-Dik.’

Dermot then jibed: ‘We need to go to Chester Zoo and see the Dik-Dik.’

It comes after Alison left Ben Shephard speechless and stifling his laughs as she cracking a cheeky jibe at him on the show.

The TV presenters were seen sipping on popular drink ‘bubble tea’ before an ad break, as they were joined by Nick Ferrari and Nicola Thorp to discuss the latest headlines from around the world.

Re-appearing after the ad break, Alison was seen joking with Ben about whether or not he liked the sweet beverage first popularised in Taiwan in the 1980s.

Ben, 51, tried to explain he wasn’t a fan of the tapioca pearls that are commonly found in the drink, explaining: ‘I quite like the [explosive] stuff in my mouth.’

Alison then responded: ‘Oh, I love the feelings of balls exploding in the mouth.’

Shocked, Ben went completely silent, looking at Alison and around the room before she awkwardly continued by announcing what was coming next on the show.

‘Coming up over the next few hours,’ Alison began, before Ben could be heard letting out a laugh, quickly covering it up by introducing the rest of the programme.

Elsewhere, fans of This Morning were left open-mouthed as Ben dashed to the PUB in the middle of the show’s live broadcast, bringing back a pint for co-star Angela Scanlon.

Ben and Angela, 42, were joined by Tom Swarbrick for the morning news segment on Wednesday where the group were seen discussing the weather.

Talking about the sunshine across London, Tom, 38, was seen dashing out of the studio while the show was on air to find the nearest pub to enjoy a drink in the warmer weather.

Later joining the LBC radio show host via live video link later in the show, Tom was seen slowly sipping on a beer as he encouraged the rest of the This Morning family to come down and join him.

Tom told his co-stars: ‘For 40 days and nights, we’ve had continuous rainfall in Britain, and this is the first moment that I feel as a nation, we are so back.’

‘I have this glorious bit of nectar here, the first one of the year,’ Tom continued, as Ben gasped: ‘Oh, that looks so good, the condensation on the outside!’

‘Down! Down! Down!’ Angela could be heard shouting as Tom took a swig, before Ben added: ‘Tom, I’m going to come out. Can you order me one?’

‘Come down, you could do the show from here! The sun is out, we’re having the best time of our lives!’ Tom encouraged them.

Ben wasted no time in leaving the studio, getting up from the sofa and leaving Angela to host the ITV show alone as he also headed to the pub.

The scenes saw cameras follow Ben as he ran down a street in the nation’s capital, finding Tom and drinking his own pint in the sunshine alongside him.

Drinking outside the pub, Ben could be heard telling Angela and the studio: ‘This is absolutely glorious! Happy rest of the year, everybody! Scanlon, I’ll bring you one back.’

Following the ad break, Ben was back in the studio with his co-star, who has stepped in to replace Cat Deeley after she went missing from hosting duties.

Handing Angela the remainder of his drink, she was seen taking a swig while introducing the upcoming segments of the show.

‘I want to look professional,’ Angela joked as she handed Ben back the drink.

Fans were quick to react to the live TV moment, taking to X, formerly Twitter, to joke about the segment – which aired at 10:50am.

One penned: ‘Out on the lash while live on This Morning,’ as another chimed in: ‘Is this segment “how to be a piss head at 10.50am”.’

A third wrote: ‘What a job, to be able to nip out for a beer live,’ as a fourth added: ‘Who has a pint at 11am?’

‘What the hell is going on?’ another viewer asked as they watched the scenes, while someone else joked: ‘Next Segment: Alcohol Abuse!’

Elsewhere, Ruby Wax shocked viewers as she joked she should have ‘taken out’ American President Donald Trump during their 2000 interview while appearing on This Morning.

The former I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! campmate joined Ben and Angela live on the ITV daytime show to discuss her upcoming tour, Ruby Wax: Absolutely Famous.

The tour will see Ruby, 72, open up on her TV career, including her hit 1990s TV series Ruby Wax Meets… which featured a diverse cast of interviewees including Donald Trump, OJ Simpson, and Pamela Anderson.

As talk turned to her meeting with Trump, 79, who in 1999 made his first bid for presidency running under the Reform Party, Ruby didn’t hold back on her opinions about the current President.

The star revealed how she was ‘thrown off’ a plane as she sat down with Donald and his now wife, former model Melania, 55.

Issuing a series of savage takedowns, Ruby began: ‘[The interview with Donald Trump] was a disaster. I got on his private plane, which has a gold bidet…

‘He had one hair, now he has road kill, and they had to wind it like a Mr Whippy. They constructed the hair, and then he came in and first thing he said was he wanted to be the next President.

‘I thought, “This guy is hilarious”, so I laughed thinking, “This guy is a joker”, and he said, “No, I want her off the plane”.

‘Because he hated me so much, I was in the eyes of evil and he thought, “I can’t speak” because when someone treats you like an idiot, you become an idiot…’

The TV star then shocked viewers at home as Angela, 42, and Ben, 51, joked with Ruby about Trump later becoming President in 2017, and again in 2025.

Ruby said: ‘Go figure… I should have taken him out,’ before panicking and trying to brush off the comment, adding: ‘Maybe I shouldn’t have said that. Can you erase that bit?’

Shrugging it off, Ruby concluded: ‘It’s all in jest.’

Fans at home were quick to flood X, formerly Twitter, with their reaction to the comment, dividing viewers as some dubbed it ‘crazy’ and others ‘hilarious’.

One penned: ‘Did Ruby Wax just say that on #ThisMorning?’ as another chimed in: ‘Another one calling for the assassination of the president of the united states, these people are crazzzzzzzy!’

Finding the funny side, someone else said: ‘Ruby Wax talking about Donald Trump on This Morning is hilarious,’ as another added: ‘Ruby Wax is hilarious. Let her host this show.’

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV1 and ITVX
