Kit Harington admitted he is ‘terrified’ of stripping naked every night in his new West End show Slave Play, during an appearance on Tuesday’s Lorraine.

The Game of Thrones actor, 37, joined his co-star Olivia Washington to chat about their new play with Lorraine Kelly.

Kit, who has to strip off to the audience during the show, admitted he still gets nervous about going commando despite thinking he would feel ‘liberated’.

He said: ‘I thought it was going to be liberating, it’s proven not to be at all. Every night I’m terrified. Every single night’. 

The actor also revealed his mother was taken aback when Kit explained there is a part in the show where he has to strip naked.

Kit shared his mother sheepishly replied: ‘Oh really’, after he explained his nudity role.

He added: ‘And I said well mum you’ve seen it all before. But she said “Yes, but not for a number of years darling”.

Kit insisted his naked scene ‘was not done lightly’ and believes there is a true reason for the part in the play.

He said: ‘Nudity is really one of those things that you have to make sure that there’s a reason for it. And it’s not being lightly done. 

‘So you don’t feel kind of exposed in the wrong way. And I believe it’s very much earnt and needed in this show where it comes.’

Kit’s ‘shocking’ nude scenes have reportedly forced theatre bosses to camouflage audience’s cameras and even threaten legal action to anyone who tries to capture a snap of the star in his birthday suit. 

In July, ticket holders were said to be provided with a special sticker to cover their phone’s cameras upon entry at the the Noël Coward Theatre.

A source told The Sun: ‘The sex scene Kit’s in is quite shocking. There are lots of mirrors on stage so the audience can see his tackle from all angles.

The actor in the play alongside Denzel Washington’s daughter Olivia, 33, and it tells the story of three interracial couples who undergo relationship counselling, which includes role play on a fictitious slave plantation 

‘The scene lasts more than ten minutes and bosses seem very concerned about it being recorded and leaked online — hence the stickers.’

Before adding: ‘Management really want to protect his modesty so they’ve threatened legal action if anyone is caught filming.’

Before going on brand Kit a ‘true pro’ and ‘doesn’t break character’ when it comes to getting naked.

Slave Play, which deals with race, identity and sexuality in twenty-first century America, was a huge hit when it debuted on Broadway in 2019 but it was also controversial, with a petition to have it cancelled.

According to the Guardian, some argued the play made light of chattel slavery and left at least one audience member ‘offended and traumatised’.

Despite the criticism, Slave Play received 12 Tony nominations in 2021.
