James Haskell has shown off the first results of his ‘preventative’ hair transplant, after being spotted leaving the clinic following the procedure on Tuesday.

The former England rugby player, 39, was spotted exiting the Restore Hair Clinic on Harley Street in a blue hospital gown, with his head newly shaved and bearing marks from the hair restoration.

And he took to his Instagram on Thursday to show his progress, sharing a snap of him in his car with his hair beginning to grow back in.

Captioning the selfie, James said he was recovering well and praised the efforts of the doctor who did the transplant.

He wrote: ‘New hair day 1 recovery is going well! What a job @drraghureddy has done. ❤️ the best in the game.’

On Monday, James revealed to an event in Newcastle that he had been offered the procedure for free and had decided to go ahead with it.

The clinic describes its treatment as: ‘A cutting-edge, minimally invasive surgery. Mastered by an experienced surgeon.’

The podcast star had previously admitted he was growing increasing insecure over his thinning hairline.

Discussing his anxiety over his thinning tresses two years ago, he said he was tempted to get it ‘sorted out’ professionally.

He said: ‘Would I have cosmetic surgery? Probably, if I need it. I’m going to get my hair sorted out at some point because it’s thinning.

‘Would I start getting Botox and other bits and pieces? Maybe, maybe not, but I don’t think so. Character in the face is important for a man.’

James also addressed the subject of male pattern baldness in his book, What a Flanker, in 2020.

He wrote: ‘The odd thing is [hair loss] affects so many men, yet they are the first to absolutely destroy anyone with a hint of a receder.

‘Men are very odd at times. I get messages telling me, “I think it’s time you shaved your head,” or “Come on mate, get a transplant,” from people I have never met. I think they consider it as banter.’

The timing of James’ new makeover seems deliberate, as henis back on the dating scene following his shock split from Chloe Madeley last year.

Earlier this year he was spotted cozying up to a mystery woman in the VIP area during a boozy night out at celebrity hangout Gilgamesh in London.

A source said at the time: ‘James looked like he was having a jolly time surrounded by friends and a number of women.

‘He’s no stranger to getting female attention and last night was no different. He was chatting to a mystery lady near the bar for some of the night.

‘They looked like they were really getting on really well and seemed cosy at times. They were whispering in each other’s ear, smiling a lot and making jokes.

‘Even if they were just friends, it was good to see James being the life and soul of the party and having a good time.’

James and Chloe, 37, announced their split in October 2023 after a decade together, five years of marriage and welcoming two-year-old daughter Bodhi.

They had fuelled speculation about a split for months, after Chloe was spotted without her wedding ring as she partied with friends, and James was pictured chatting to a mystery blonde on a night out in London.

But these days they seem to be getting on better than ever, with Chloe admitting they’re ‘really good friends’ on Olivia Attwood’s So Wrong It’s Right podcast this week.

She said: ‘James and I were really good friends, I just want to be clear. We don’t work together romantically. We do work as friends, by and large, we’re very good friends.

‘We spend loads of time together. Me, him and Bodhi are often at Sunday lunch together. He was with me on my birthday to basically be the parent while I got drunk.

‘And I think, and I hope, that over time that is only going to get better, so you know, actually we made the right decision. We’re happier and we’re closer in many ways now than we were then.’

In recent weeks, Chloe’s famous father Richard Madeley revealed that the two have even jetted off to France together on holiday.

He told The Sun they have a ‘very happy uncoupling’ and that the two maintain a ‘very civilised relationship’, with James visiting their house all the time.

Reflecting on their separation on Loose Women at the start of the year, Chloe admitted the pair get on better now they’re no longer romantically together.

Chloe, who is the daughter of Richard and Judy Finnigan, said: ‘I think there’s pillars that hold up a relationship such as love and respect.

‘Over time all of our pillars disintegrated and when that happens there is no saving it. We get on better now we aren’t romantically together.

‘Since we parted ways our relationship has become very respectful and we love each other as friends.

‘One of the things that was hard was him being away so much DJing like four or five nights a week but that works for us now because I get my time alone and then he comes back and has his time with Bodhi.

‘I’m happier now than I have ever been and he is happy too. There were horrible weeks when I struggled to get out of bed but once I drew a line, I was ok. I want James to be happy, I want Bodhi to be happy and I want to be happy.’

By contrast, Chloe said her separation from her estranged husband was ‘f***ing awful’ and that the relationship had been ‘miserable’.
