MATCH STORY: How the action unfolded in Hamburg
If Georgia and Czechia have shown fans anything, it’s that their matches are well worth a watch.
This clash in Hamburg was end to end throughout the first half and a captivating watch in the second as Georgia fought to fend off Czechia’s flurry of attacks.
Mail Sport’s HENRY CLARK was at Volksparkstadion capturing the action. Read his full match story below.

Stats compound Czech misery
If you didn’t realise this alredy, the post-match stats show that Czechia were extremely dominant against Georgia and should really have come away with the full three points.
Despite 62 per cent possession and an astoninshing 27 shots on goal, the Czechs only managed to breach Mamardashvili’s net once during the match, and thus had to settle for a share of the spoils.
Czechia were more physical than Georgia however, conceding 17 fouls to their 12, and also picked up five yellow cards.

Superb effort from Mamardashvili
While it’s never wise to rely on a good goalkeeper, their importance in a team is fundemental – and Georgian shot-stopper Mamardashvili, 23, showed that today.
Georgia defended superbly during the 1-1 draw but invetiably leaked a handful of shots on goal, which the Valencia star batted away comfortanly throughout.
The goalkeeper made 11 saves and prevented over three goals against the Czechs, which is a tremendous effort in his first tournament with Georgia.

What that result means…
A 1-1 draw is certainly what Portugal and Turkey would have been hoping for ahead of their 5pm kick-off later on, with each side still two points ahead of their Group F rivals before facing each other.
Meanwhile, Czechia are slightly ahead of the Georgians in third on goal difference, with both having picked up their first points of the tournament.
The score draw is also a major boost for the likes of Scotland who are hoping to qualify as one of the highest scoring third place teams, given Georgia and Czechia are still stuck on one point.

FULL TIME: Georgia 1-1 Czechia
And moments after Lobzhanidze’s miss, the final whistle blows in Hamburg.
What an enthralling game. Brilliant intensity from both sides, who pushed and probed but lacked the quality in the final third.

Georgia 1-1 Czechia: THAT WAS THE CHANCE!
What a huge moment at the end for Lobzhanidze!
Georgia break away three-on-one in the final moments, and Lobzhanidze is found inside the box uncontested, just needing to find the crucial finish.
But, as Stanek flies out, he blazes his effort over the bar and immediatly puts his head in his hands.
That could have been Georgia’s first ever win of the European Championships…

Georgia 1-1 Czechia: Czechs pushing for the win
Georgia manage to get ahold of the ball and push Czechia back for a moment, but lose the ball soon after before camping back in and around their box.
Jurasec sees an opening on goal from outside the area and takes a strike, but it’s a tame effort and easily saved by Mamardashvili.
Not long now until the final whistle…

Georgia 1-1 Czechia: FIVE minutes added on
Coufal, Sevcik and Soucek put together a smart move in and around the Georgian box, before the captain loops a ball into the area, which is well cleared.
The pressure is mounting significantly on the Georgia goal but they are defending admirably and are clearly playing out for the point now.
Five minutes added time.

Georgia 1-1 Czechia: Late penalty shout
Czechia want a penalty as Chytil is squeezed to the floor by the Georgian defence, who are hanging on for dear life here.
But the referee gesticulates loudly to say it’s not a penalty and play is waved on.
Definitely looked the right decision there…

Georgia 1-1 Czechia: Kvaratskhelia makes way
With less than 10 minutes of regular time to play, both sides switch things up in search of an important winner.
Star man Kvaratskhelia makes way alongside Kvirkvelia in place of Gvelesiani and Lobzhanidze
Sevcik and Barak take to the field for Czechia, meanwhile.
A flurry of yellows follow as Soucek is booked after a sliding challenge in the middle of the park and Jurasek picks one up upon exiting the field. Mekvabishvili is also booked for a late tackle.

Georgia 1-1 Czechia: Chytil comes close
Czechia mount another attack and this time find Chytil in the penalty area, who glances his header towards the far post and just narrowly wide.
It was a half chance for the forward, who did well to make something of the opportunity, but looks disappointed as the ball goes behind for a goal kick.

Georgia 1-1 Czechia: Soucek and Co on top
Czechia smell blood here and their fans are excitedly expectant of a chance every time the referee points for a corner.
Georgia are really struggling to deal with Czechia’s aerial threat, and it looks like they’re set for a backs-to-the-walls end to this match, unless something changes.

Georgia 1-1 Czechia: Schick off injured
Czechia are forced into another substitution as Schick goes down off the ball in some pain, before limping off in place of Chytil.

Georgia 1-1 Czechia: Good save from Mamardashvili
All momentum is swinging in Czechia’s favour now. White shirts flurry forward as Georgia scramble back, and they find enough space to fire an effort on goal, which is comfortably saved by Mamardashvili.

Georgia 1-1 Czechia: Georgian changes
Lochoshvili and Chakvetadze replace Davitashvili and Tsitaishvili.

Georgia 1-1 Czechia: Krejci comes close
Almost ANOTHER goal from a set piece for Czechia. This time it’s Krejci darting towards the front post, but his glancing header drifts wide of the target.
Georgia living dangerously here…

Goal:Georgia 1-1 Czechia: Schick levels the game!
No more than a minute after Georgia have an excellent chance to make it two through Mekvabishvili, Czechia gain another corner and whip in a dangerous delivery.
The ball is flicked by subsitute Lingr onto the post and Schick is right where he needs to be, bundling the ball in on the line.
We’re level here in Hamburg!

Georgia 1-0 Czechia: Changes for the Czechs
Czechia decide to shuffle their pack as Cerny and Hlozek are replaced by Lingr and Jurasek.

Georgia 1-0 Czechia: Holes goes in the book
Easy decision this one for the referee.
After a difficult period of defending for Georgia, Kvaratskhelia sparks a counter attack and is chopped down by the Czech defender, who picks up a yellow card as a result.

Moyesy’s not impressed!
Moyes wasn’t too impressed with his former player Coufal after seeing how far he managed to throw the ball against Georgia in the first half.
‘He is throwing it further than he did for me at West Ham,’ the manager said, triggering laughter from the BBC panel.
I wonder how far the Czech will launch it under new Irons boss Lopetegui!

Georgia 1-0 Czechia: Fast start again
Georgia with the best of the action so far in the half as Tsitaishvili whips two low crosses across the Czech penalty area.
The first is dealt with well by the defence and the second by the goalkeeper Stanek, who collects comfortably and attempts to mount a counter-attack with a quick throw out.
The pace certainly hasn’t slowed after the half time whistle!

SECOND HALF: Georgia 1-0 Czechia
We’re back underway in Hamburg, as Euro 2024 elimination looms for Czechia…
Let’s see if they can mount a comeback!

What the stats show…
As we catch our breath after an enthralling first half, here are some key stats from the opening 45 minutes in Hamburg.
Czechia were on top in terms of expected goals and shots on target, chalking up eight to Georgia’s one, but all that matters it the lead at half time!
Mikautadze also becomes only the sixth player in European Championship history to score his nation’s first two goals of the tournament.
Second half coming up next!

Georgia 1-0 Czechia: Heroic save from Mamardashvili!
THAT is save of the tournament so far!
Mamardashvili keeps Georgia’s lead in tact at half time with a glorious diving stop to his right to deny Schick inside the penalty area.
What an amazing end to the half!

Goal:Georgia 1-0 Czechia: Mikautadze from the spot!
HUGE moment for Georgia as the tournament debutants take the lead!
Mikautadze keeps his cool to fire the ball into the right-hand corner, sending Stanek the wrong way.
1-0!

Georgia 0-0 Czechia: PENALTY!
Curse of the blogger!
There I am saying Czechia have been solid defending from set-pieces – but they make a huge meal of the next one and give Kashia a golden chance in the six yard box – which Stanek saves superbly.
But VAR checks the incident and sees that the ball struck Hranac’s hand on the way through. Penalty to Georgia!

Georgia 0-0 Czechia: Game winding down to half-time
The intensity of this game is beginning to calm down a little ahead of half time, and Georgia decide to take their time over a long-distance set piece in an effort to go ahead before the break.
But Czechia, who are blessed with height in the side, defend the cross solidly as they have all game.

Georgia 0-0 Czechia: Now Provod goes into the book
The referee’s trying to keep a grip on this intense game by taking his cards out – and this time it’s Provod who picks up a yellow for trying to win the ball back in the centre of the park.

Georgia 0-0 Czechia: Kashia booked
Georgia captain Kashia is booked after bundling into Soucek. He’ll happily take that card after stopping a dangerous Czechia break.

Georgia 0-0 Czechia: Coufal deals with the danger
Georgia launch a dangerous attack with several intricate passes around the area, and Kvaratskhelia finds Davitashvili inside the penalty box.
He fires a low ball across goal and nearly finds a red body in the middle, but Coufal is there to direct the ball behind for a corner.

Why Hlozek’s goal was disallowed…
Hlozek will feel unfortunate at this being disallowed, but the ball no doubt struck his arm and – even though it wasn’t deliberate – rules dictate it must be disallowed.
Czechia probably deserve the lead, but this game is wide open and Georgia look a real handful on the break too.
A huge moment in the match…

Georgia 0-0 Czechia: Comfortable save for Mamardashvili
Czechia’s high press forces a mistake and allows Hlozec a clear sight at goal on the edge of the penalty area, but the forward fires his strike directly down the goalkeeper’s throat.
He’ll be disappointed with that for sure – and may have been wiser looking to place it in the far corner rather than simply going for power.

Georgia 0-0 Czechia: Brilliant from Kvaratskhelia
If you don’t watch a lot of Serie A, you’re finally seeing why Napoli’s Kvaratskhelia is so highly regarded.
The winger skips past three defenders on his way to the edge of the box and winds up to let an effort fly, only to be stopped in the final moments.
If Georgia score today, you’d bet anything on him being involved.

DISALLOWED! Georgia 0-0 Czechia
Replays show the ball struck Hlozec’s arm after hitting his face, and the goal is rightly disallowed for offside.
Even stevens again in Hamburg!

Goal:Georgia 0-1 Czechia: Hlozec bundles it in!
There’s a scramble in the penalty area but Hlozec is the first to react, and he fires his effort straight into Mamardashvili.
The rebound off the goalkeeper strikes him in the face and goes into the net. Czechia lead!

Georgia 0-0 Czechia: Czechia lack final ball
Czechia proudce some great interplay in and around the box, targeting Schick who links up well with his back to goal.
Georgia deal with things rather comfortably though, as Czechia continue to struggle with the key final pass or cross from wide areas.
Both sides will be relatively happy with how things have started, although Czechia will feel they need to take advantage while on top.

Georgia 0-0 Czechia: Coufal booked
As Kvaratskhelia breaks away and spins near the half way line, he’s tripped by Coufal and the referee decides to book the West Ham star.
He’ll be walking a tightrope for the remainder of the match…

Georgia 0-0 Czechia: Czechia corners causing problems
Cerny’s corner is well dealt with initially but Czechia get another bite at the cherry and whip a cross into the penalty area, which needs Mamardashvili to tip the ball behind for another corner kick after the centre-backs fail to deal with it.
Cerny’s second corner is far more disappointing, allowing Georgia to clear. Georgia look dangerous on the break, but it’s all Czechia at the moment…

Georgia 0-0 Czechia: Another penalty claim
This time it’s Georgia with a penalty – but the referee is uninterested again and the VAR check is completed within seconds.
Davitashvili breaks into the box and is bundled to the floor, but replays show he maybe hit the deck a little easy.
You’ve seen them given, but that’s probably the right call.

Georgia 0-0 Czechia: Kashia kept busy
Cerny has a shot on goal from outside the box and strikes Kashia on the shoulder, sparking a few unconvinced calls for a penalty.
Rightly, the referee waves play on but Georgia can’t escape, and Kashia is called into action again to block a fierce shot from Schick from just outside the box.

Georgia 0-0 Czechia: Kvaratskhelia looking dangerous
Georgia look dangerous on the break however, utlising Kvaratskhelia as a dangerous outlet, and the Napoli star wins a corner after breaking into the box on the left-hand side.
Defending the corner solidly, Czechia just calm things down by passing it around the back – a wise move considering how noisy and buoyant it is inside the stadium.
A crazy intesity to the game so far. Long may it continue.

Georgia 0-0 Czechia: BIG chance early on
The noise inside the stadium is electric. It’s 75 per cent full of Georgia fans and it’s led to a frantic start here.
Mamardashvili makes two huge saves to deny a flurry of early shots on goal, and Czechia will be happy with the bright start they’ve made early on.

KICK OFF
We’re off an underway at Volksparkstadion!

‘Believe’
That’s the banner Georgian fans have erected ahead of their first international meeting with Czechia today.
Perhaps taking a page out of ficitional manager Ted Lasso’s playbook, they’re hope it inspires their country to victory and to keep their hopes of knockout qualification alive.
Kick-off awaits!

Moyes: ‘Scotland could do with a draw’
This game isn’t only significant in terms of Group F… it could have a huge impact on the tournament as a whole.
David Moyes, who left West Ham at the end of the season, is eager for a draw between the two sides today – with Scotland still hoping they can qualify for the knockouts as one of the highest scoring third-place teams.
But the Scotsman is conflicted – he wants his old Hammers colleagues Vladimir Coufal and Tomas Soucek to do well too.
‘I’ve got two players – or ex-players I should say – playing for the Czechs tonight. And I want them to do well. But Scotland could really do with a draw today,’ he admitted.
Let’s see how the match unfolds…

Ready for business
And here are… the stars of the show!
Both sets of players have arrived and are working through their final preparations ahead of a seismic match. Lose today, and that’s it for any hope of a knockout run this tournamnet.
Just half an hour until kick-off… who are you backing?

Czechia: The story so far…
Right, so we’ve had a little look at how Georgia fared in their first match before the line-ups dropped, so let’s turn our attention to Czechia’s form heading into today’s match.
Tomas Soucek and Co came agonisingly close to a share of the spoils against Portugal on Tuesday, taking the lead through Lukas Provod before conceding an own goal and a dramatic late winner from Portuguese subsitute Francisco Conceicao.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s rather mocking celebrations in the face of goalkeeper Jindrich Stanek after Portugal’s late winner will no doubt fire Czechia up ahead today’s game, with Roberto Martinez’s set for a tricky clash with impressive Turkey later on.
Mail Sport’s Oliver Holt was in Germany to witness Czechia’s first match of the tournament on Tuesday. Read his full story below for all the details.

Georgia: The story so far…
Despite heading into Euro 2024 as arguably the tournament minnows, Georgia impressed against Turkey despite ultimately suffering a 3-1 defeat.
After falling behind, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Co took scored a stunning equaliser through Georges Mikautadze just after the hour mark to announce themselves on the competition, sparking hope of what would have been a historic result.
It wasn’t to be for the Georgian outfit, however, as Turkey struck twice in the second half to emerge victorious, but the underdogs certainly showed they won’t roll over in Group F ahead of today’s clash with the Czechs.
