Gen Z have seemingly invented their own language these days, throwing around phrases like ‘brat summer’ and ‘very demure’ which leave many people of older generations scratching their heads.
So, when a bed and breakfast owner in the UK began promoting her business on social media, she enlisted her Gen Z daughter to help her manage the lingo used by the TikTok generation.
The owner of Fyfield Manor near Wallingford in Oxfordshire took TikTok to post a promotional video showcasing the history and architecture of the 880-year-old B&B.
However, the video included an unusual twist – the script incorporated slang terms commonly used by Gen Z – defined as those born between the mid to late-1990s and early 2010s.
The owner, while sporting a pair of Y2K sunglasses, used phrases including ‘rizz’, which refers to romantic charm or appeal, to describe the accommodation.
The video has racked up over 8.5 million views in two days, with one viewer saying it’s the ‘best marketing I’ve seen in a while’.

The owner (pictured) of Fyfield Manor in Oxfordshire has caused a storm online after sharing a marketing video scripted by her Gen Z daughter
The video explained: ‘When you ask your Gen Z daughter to write the marketing script.’
The owner began the clip by highlighting the exterior of the historic bed and breakfast, saying: ‘our bed and breakfast is 880 years old no cap’.
The slang term ‘no cap’ is used when a person wants to convey that they are telling the truth.
The owner continued by touring the gardens and said: ‘See the garden? It’s giving relaxation, it’s giving zen’.
The younger generation often use the term ‘it’s giving’ to describe when something or someone is giving off a certain energy.
Next, she added: ‘The medieval dining room has so much rizz’. The term rizz, internet slang for ‘romantic appeal’ or charm, was crowned the Oxford word of the year in 2023.
According to the Oxford University Press, ‘rizz’ is defined as style, charm, or attractiveness; the ability to attract a romantic or sexual partner. Linguistic experts believe it comes from a shortened version of the word charisma.

The clip incorporated Gen Z slang terms, including ‘menty b’, which refers to a mental breakdown
It can also be used as a verb, in sayings such as ‘to rizz up’, which means to attract, seduce, or chat someone up.
The owner continued, ‘the Georgian panel room understood the assignment’ – a term used to praise a given thing or person.
She went on to say: ‘See how the Victorian windows let in a lot of light… very considerate, very mindful, very demure’.
The sentence refers to a trend that is said to have been sparked by a now viral TikTok video by American content creator Jools Lebron (known on the platform as @joolieannie).
In the clip, which has nearly four million views and 1.5 million likes, the self-described ‘fierce diva’ encourages women to dress in a way that is ‘demure and modest and respectful at the workplace’.
The clip has become a viral sensational with Gen Z filming videos featuring the words ‘very demure, very mindful’.
It appears there are no limits as to what can be described as ‘demure and mindful’ with Gen Z using it to glamourise activities from ‘bed rotting’ (where individuals spend a long period of time in bed scrolling on their phones) to eating chocolate cake or going for a walk.

Viewers took to the comment section to share their thoughts on the video, and many were impressed
The owner used one word to describe the bathrooms at Fyfield Manor – ‘slay’ – which is used to describe when a given thing is done exceptionally well.
She concluded the video by saying: ‘Whether you need to recover from a brat summer or a menty b, this is the place for you’.

Brat girl summer refers to a trend kickstarted by singer Charli XCX, characterised by recklessness, eccentric behaviour, and risqué attitudes.
Brats are edgy, or in the words of Charli XCX during a BBC interview, they are: ‘Trashy. Just like a pack of cigs and, like, a Bic lighter. And, like, a strappy white top. With no bra. That’s, like, kind of all you need.’
The term ‘menty b’ refers to a mental breakdown and is commonly used on social media.
In the caption, the owner’s Gen Z daughter added: ”I can confirm she understood nothing she said’.
