A pensioner has captured the mood of the nation with his deeply unimpressed reaction to the coming election, evoking the spirit of Brenda from Bristol.

Nigel was one of several voters in Hertford asked by a reporter about the coming contest on July 4, when Britain goes to the polls.

He said: ‘I couldn’t give a damn. When you get to my age you’ve heard it all before – they’re all full of s***.

‘I don’t care if people are offended by my language. I’m offended by politicians.’

He continued: ‘They can spew out what they want, and promise what they want, but I’m 74 years of age and I’ve heard it all before.’

Nigel gave his reaction to the Pen News YouTube channel  for its ‘Listening to Britain’ series.

His pearls of wisdom have now been watched by more than 50,000 people across different platforms.

One viewer who witnessed Nigel’s rant suggested ‘this is the man for PM’

‘This is the man for PM,’ wrote one viewer.

Another commented: ‘I feel like the first guy and I’m 27.’

A third person reacted: ‘He’s at an age when absolutely no f***s are given. I can’t wait to get to that age so I say anything and get away with it.’

Another wrote: ‘He’s right, our politicians are about as reliable as thin ice!’

Nigel isn’t the first voter to capture the public imagination with his reaction to an impending election.

Brenda from Bristol went viral with her response to Theresa May’s snap general election announcement in 2017.

She said: ‘You’re joking. Not another one? Oh for God’s sake… I can’t stand this.’

Later in his interview, Nigel was asked if there was much difference between Conservative and Labour for him.

‘Not for a working man,’ he said. ‘I don’t trust any of them – it’s just talk.’

Sir Keir Starmer
Rishi Suank

Nigel was dismissive of the two main party leaders Sir Keir Starmer, left, and Rishi Sunak, right. He said: ‘People can vote for what they want, I’m totally democratic. I just don’t like any of them’

He also gave his view on the Green Party, who made gains in the Hertford district in last year’s local elections.

Nigel said: ‘People can vote for what they want, I’m totally democratic. I just don’t like any of them.

‘The two main parties I’m totally fed up with. Same old crap you hear all the time. Promise? Yeah right.

‘In two years time, all they’ll say is ‘we haven’t done it yet, because we’re still making up for the mess the other lot left behind’.

‘Same old every time.’

He went on to say that he wouldn’t be voting Conservative or Labour.

‘Green? I might do. I might just not bother,’ he said.

And as a parting thought he added: ‘I’m glad Man United won the FA Cup.’

New episodes of Listening to Britain are released on the Pen News YouTube channel every Tuesday.
