It has been five years since Molly-Mae Hague left the Love Island villa in second place.

She first entered the villa as a bright-eyed 20-year-old woman from Hertfordshire with bronze skin, bleach-blonde tresses and vibrant colourful outfits, where she met Tommy Fury, a professional boxer.

But half a decade on the blonde beauty has toned down her reality star look, gaining a fiance and welcoming her daughter Bambi.

Now 25, Molly-Mae has stripped back her look and is now opting for ‘less is more’ when it comes to her wardrobe, make-up and hair.

Ever since she gave birth to her child, the influencer has been donning an aesthetic dubbed the ‘Sofia Richie effect,’ which is full of classy, neutral ensembles usually consisting of blazers, high necklines and staple denim jeans.

At her sister’s per-wedding celebrations in the Lake District, Molly opted for  a simple, yet sophisticated, sleeveless dress and natural makeup in photos shared of her posing by the water.

Her hair is now a more toned-down shade of blonde and she usually wears her locks down in a sleek wavy blow-dry – rather than the large bun millions saw on the Love Island.

This is a far cry from the bright blue matching co-ord suit the content creator donned when she made an appearance on This Morning in 2019.

This shift may signal that Molly-Mae is looking to leave her reality television career behind and venture into new career prospects.

Celebrity stylist Rochelle White told FEMAIL: ‘She has shown what she can do as a Creative Director for Pretty Little Thing when she was in that post-Love Island Era.

‘More brands will be attracted to her as she has changed her image – which could also be why she did it.

‘She has grown and so that will naturally attract bigger brands.’

Before she became a mother in January 2023, the former PrettyLittleThing Creative Director would often be seen sporting more neon cut-out clothing, extensions and bright white teeth.

But it seems this Instagram modelesque era has had its time after she flogged many of her unwanted designer garments for as little as £15 on platforms such as Depop.

Brand and Culture Expert Nick Ede previously told The Sun: ‘Molly-Mae has transformed herself into a yummy mummy who has ditched the glamour model style for a more relaxed and natural look.’

He added that this more ‘down-to-earth’ look would win over more fans, as she is showing off a ‘softer side’.

Rochelle also believes that this switch-up in style has been sparked by becoming a mother. She said: ‘I think she wants her daughter to be able to look up to her and be proud of her.

‘She no doubt wants her daughter to be able to look back at photos and not ask “Who’s that, or why do you look different”.

‘I feel that she is in a different stage of her life and her old look and style no longer work for her.

‘I also feel that she is aware that she is raising a daughter and no doubt wants to be a Mum that her daughter is proud of and sets a standard from now.’

‘[It’s] very similar to Kylie Jenner when she [spoke] about the beauty standards she had placed on herself and also society and the impact that would have down the line.’

The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star, who is a year older than Molly-Mae, spoke about her procedures on the show, expressing regret over having them done.

She said: ‘I don’t want my daughter to do the things I did. I wish I never touched anything to begin with.’

This has similarly been echoed by Molly-Mae, who has changed her face via cosmetic procedures in the past.

She continued to get filler in her face after appearing on Love Island. But she explained  that it was time to stop the enhancements after posting a YouTube video following an appointment.

She reportedly paid £5,800 to get the filler dissolved and was left with a brand new face in a bid to get in touch with her authentic self.

Speaking on The Diary of a CEO with Steve Bartlett podcast, Molly-Mae said she decided that enough was enough after seeing pictures of her face ‘swollen’ face post-procedure go viral.

She said: ‘I wouldn’t say I got addicted to it, but by the age of 21, I didn’t look like the same person.

‘I literally looked like a different person. When I look back at pictures now, I’m terrified of myself. I’m like, ‘Who was that girl?’ I don’t know what happened.

‘But there was this one pivotal moment where I’d gone and got loads of filler and I posted a YouTube video and I hadn’t let the filler settle and it was really swollen and a screenshot from that video, it trended on Twitter for weeks.

‘It was horrendous. It was utterly horrendous. My face was literally like, it was just awful. That was the moment for me as well where I was like, I think things need to change.’

Rochelle believes the reaction to the infamous picture of Molly-Mae’s swollen face played a big part in her becoming more natural and predicts that she was inspired by the ‘clean girl’ aesthetic, which is loved by other stars such as Hailey Bieber.

She said: ‘Sometimes when things like that happen, it’s a bit of a wake-up call. She started to see herself in a more natural light and that led to her removing her hair extensions.

‘There is a “clean girl” aesthetic going around and although I don’t believe she is on that trend, I do think that it could have inspired her.

‘I also believe that the goal for her to be a social media influencer, was reached and as she got older she wanted to move away from that.’

In October 2021, Molly-Mae and Tommy had their Manchester home burgled whilst they were in London and lost around £800,000 worth of belongings.

Rochelle also believes this experience may have contributed to her posting more basic outfits online, to keep her wealth under wraps.

I think like anything like that is a [warning] to be careful about what you show online and wear out,’ she said.

‘That is a scary experience and has an impact. I think she has toned it down and created a look that still feels like she giving her followers what they want, but in a way for her that is more careful and calculated.’
