A Poundland store worker has been hailed for standing up to a shoplifter and stopping him from leaving with goods stuffed in his jacket.

The brave employee spotted the crook attempting to leave with a number of products at the Poundland branch in Westway Cross Shopping Park, Greenford, northwest London.

He blocked him from leaving the budget shop chain at the front door, leading to the two becoming embroiled in a 30-second scuffle as a shocked customer watched on.

The hero shop worker managed to stop the thief from leaving with the stolen loot after they fell out of his jacket on Sunday.

The courageous uniformed employee collared him and said: ‘Give me the stuff. Give me the stuff.’

He blocked his path and the would-be thief replied: ‘Stop pushing me. I haven’t got…Stop it. I haven’t got anything.’

But the persistent staff member refused to let him go and five items eventually fell on the floor before the man fled.

The footage was posted onto social media and garnered a large number of views and comments from users – many of whom praised the actions of the Poundland employee.

One person posted: ‘Every store should have guys like this. Someone who has the balls to say “no”.’

Another added: ‘Well done that shop worker.’, while a third said: ‘Poundland give this man a pay rise.’

One user simply put: ‘Well done, that guy should get a bonus.’

The Met Police told MailOnline it had no record of attending the store.

A Poundland spokesperson said: ‘We’re aware of the incident and what our stores face every day. We’re investing significantly in physical security, bodycams and other enhanced communication tools such as headsets to help colleagues.’
