This is the moment a bungling jewellery thief is brought to justice by police after they notice him wearing a watch he stole during a £10,000 raid.

CCTV footage shows Kieron Millin, 43, smashing his way into a store in Market Street in Sutton-in Ashfield where he swiped thousands in under a minute.

After shattering a window, the crook pushed over a display case and snatched the valuable jewellery and watches inside, scattered among the damage.

The thief, wearing a scarf around his face, then fled out of the window, but not before dropping a stolen item and falling after it.

The 43-year-old launched the stolen item out of the smashed window before awkwardly reattempting his escape on foot on February 12 of this year.

But his burglary spree was in vain as local police noticed him from the raid that unfolded in the early hours of that morning.

Police noticed not only was Millin wearing the same clothes as the night of the incident, but brazenly adorned his wrist with the stolen watches.

He initially denied committing the crime, responding ‘what burglary’ as officers searched him and discovered multiple items of jewellery in his pockets.

Millin confessed to burglary when he appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court last Friday.

PC Dean Fenton, of Nottinghamshire Police’s county priority tasking team, said: ‘Our officers were quickly able to identify Millin from the CCTV of this break-in, due to our various dealings with him in the past.

‘Armed with this information, it thankfully didn’t then take us long to detain him after spotting him out and about in the community.

‘Due to the speed of this response, we actually found him with some of the stolen valuables still in his possession, while he also had the same clothing on too.

‘Despite initially denying knowing anything about a burglary when we stopped him, the strength of the evidence against him meant he had no choice but to admit what he’d done.’
