  • The bizarre incident happened at 7pm on Friday night last week

This is the shocking moment a delivery rider cycles the wrong way through the Blackwall Tunnel as he dodges oncoming cars.

The lost deliveryman who wears Deliveroo-branded gear peddled against oncoming traffic and nearly hit a motorbike in the London tunnel – which cyclists are banned from – at 7pm on March 1.

He is barely able to get past two cars by squeezing against the tunnel wall before he veered out onto the road, barely missing a motorbike.

The food drop-off worker then blocked the van that was recording the dashcam footage before disappearing off to the left.

Motorists slammed the cyclist online for his ‘irresponsible’ behaviour, with one saying he is ‘clearly not the brightest light bulb in the chandelier’.

Deliveroo said the rider ‘was not working for Deliveroo during this incident’.

In the footage, a man in the van is heard saying: ‘C***! Did you see him?’, while other motorists criticised the rider, who had the distinctive turquoise Deliveroo bag on his back, online.

Linda Lancaster said: ‘Really? Irresponsible and clearly not the brightest light bulb in the chandelier.’

Jamie Hunter joked: ‘Yeah, but did he get there on time? Was the kebab still warm when he got there? That’s all that matters.’

Andrew said: ‘Sick of these delivery bikers. They turn roads, crossings, pavements into a nightmare.

‘Often in dark clothes and no lights at night making them nearly invisible. These companies need to take responsibility.’

Another motorist said: ‘I genuinely think they don’t have any clue about our road laws.’

A fifth added: ‘They are a menace to everyone in London. You can’t walk on the pavement or cross the road without running into one of them.

Yet one, called Bob, said: ‘At least he’s working.’

A Deliveroo spokesperson told MailOnline: ‘We take our responsibilities seriously to ensure the safety of riders and the safety of the communities where we operate.

‘We have investigated and the rider was not working for Deliveroo during this incident.”

‘During the onboarding process, every rider completes a programme of road safety guidance.

‘All riders are required to meet minimum safety standards and, as with all road users, they must follow Highway Code.’

The Met Police have been approached for comment.
