An accomplice of the Monster of Avignon began to ‘hate women’ after he discovered he was not the father of the daughter he cherished, a court in France has heard.

Businessman Adrien Longeron enjoyed a privileged upbringing in a wealthy family and with loving parents and sibling in the hills of Provence in the south of France.

But he grew to ‘hate women’ and embarked on a campaign of rape and violence – including the rape of Gisele Pelicot who had been rendered unconscious by her husband with powerful sedatives.

Retired electrician Dominique Pelicot has admitted his part in the mass rape of his wife over ten years at their home in the picturesque village of Mazan in the shadow of Mont Ventoux.

The 71-year-old has told how he would regularly drug Madame Pelicot’s evening meal and invite strangers he had met on the internet to their home to rape her in their marital bed while he filmed and took photographs.

Longeron told how he felt ‘utterly betrayed’ by his first love Marine who fell pregnant when she was just 16 and he was 18.

The court heard how Longeron, whose father owns a major public works company that has some 250 employees, refused to let his girlfriend have an abortion ‘against the advice of everyone’ and a little girl named Ninon was born in 2009.

But three years later when Longeron was 19, under the pressure of his parents, he took a paternity test and discovered he was not the father.

He told psychiatrist: ‘From then onwards I had a hatred towards women.

‘There was time before and a time after [I discovered I was not the father].

‘I embarked on lots of affairs and I had sex with many different women.’

Psychiatrist Dr Joelle Palma described Longeron as a ‘classic narcissist’ with a ‘exacerbated and uncontrolled sex drive’.

The court was told that Longeron had sex with women much older than himself and accepted an invitation by Pelicot have sex with his unconscious wife in when he was just 24.

Longeron was one among the first of Pelicot’s accomplices, taking part in the mass rape in March 2014.

His son, Enzo, was born just ten days later.

Longeron was arrested for his part in the mass rape of Madame Pelicot in June 2021.

And two years, in 2023, later he was jailed for 18 years for the rape of three former girlfriends, the court heard.

Yesterday his mother Emilie Longeron broke down in court as she gave evidence in support of her son’s character.

But Judge Roger Arata reminded her: ‘I would like to point out to you that this is the second time we are seeing ourselves in an identical situation [with your son on trial accused of rape].
