A mother has come under fire after she shared a ‘life hack’ to divide her children’s bedroom in two.

Scarlett, who lives in Surrey, took to TikTok to share her renovations, which meant her two daughters, six and one, could have their own space.

Her husband had divided the room in two using panelling, filling in any gaps with paint.

But while Scarlett said the family were ‘so happy’ with how it had turned out, viewers quickly noticed that one side of the room seemed much more spacious than the other – and even said the smaller side looked like ‘a dungeon’.

Taking to her TikTok account @scarlett.sylvia in a video that has racked up more than four million views, the mother-of-three said: ‘Just wanted to show you what my husband managed to do to split the girls’ bedroom into two using a bunkbed.

‘So he just used the bunkbed that I think we got from online and he bought some panelling and managed to panel round, filling any gaps, sand, paint.

‘He made it look really good, and almost like a little hall that separated the two girls’ bedrooms.

Her eldest daughter’s side of the room appeared much larger and also benefitted from having a window and wardrobe space.

Meanwhile, the younger daughter was given the bottom of the bunk bed and only had a narrow corridor for space.

She then gestured to her younger daughter’s bottom bunk, explaining: ‘So my youngest daughter will be sleeping at the bottom of the bunk so she has her own space.’

And moving to the other side of the room, she added: ‘Then we go through to my older daughter’s bedroom, who also has her own space.

‘We managed to fit in a wardrobe, dressing table. She’ll be sleeping at the top and she still has her own privacy as it completely separates the two bedrooms.

‘We are so happy with it, and she is very happy with it. It’s no different to having a box room I don’t think.’

Just wanted to show you guys what my husband has been up to. He has managed to use a bunk bed to cleverly seperate the girls ages 1 and 6 bedroom. And I am in LOVE. The children love their new rooms, my 1 year old is not finished yet and she is still in the cot in my bedroom, got more bits to do in it. #girlsbedroomideas #diy #diyproject #momsoftiktok #mumsoftiktok #momtok #tiktokmum #mom #mum

Despite Scarlett’s enthusiasm, viewers rushed to the comments to note the unfair divide, with some even comparing it to Harry Potter’s bedroom under the stairs.

They wrote: ‘We know who’s the favourite lol’;

‘I love this so much!!! but how did you decide who gets the VIP room and who gets the dungeon?’;

‘No because why is one decorated so nicely and the other looks like a under stair storage room, doesn’t even look like a bedroom’;

‘Looks like a fair 70/30 split’;

‘One has natural light, second has Harry Potter style room’;

However, another said: ‘This looks and is amazing! The comments are ridiculous. Their own space is the point not the size ❤️.’

However, Scarlett, who also has a son, said her children ‘love’ the new room as they were previously sharing.

In response to the negative comments, she added the family would be moving house at some point in the future, while the younger child spends their time in the living room.

In a later video, she showed she’d made the younger daughter’s half brighter, adding fairy lights, wall lights and a dolls house.
