Meghan Markle is known for her love of symbolic jewellery – from her Cartier ‘Love’ bracelet and Princess Diana’s Cartier tank watch to the diamond studs she wore for Prince Archie’s christening.

Now, it appears the Duchess of Sussex, 44, has added another sentimental piece to this collection after fans spotted a mysterious sparkler on the ring finger of her right hand.

Meghan enjoyed a sporty date night with Prince Harry as the couple snatched courtside seats for the NBA All-Star Game on February 15.

As they waved at the cameras and posed for pictures, a large diamond ring – that isn’t part of her wedding stack – caught the light.

The choice of hand was especially noteworthy as jewellery expert Trang Do told The Daily Mail that ‘wearing a significant ring on the right hand often symbolises independence, self-love, and personal power’.

The founder of Kimjoux, which specialises in bespoke fine jewellery, added that it could ‘signal an upgrade of her engagement ring story’ after Meghan sparked speculation she has redesigned elements of the 2.5-carat jewel from Prince Harry four times.

Commenting on the ring, Trang said: ‘It could also point to an upgrade or evolution of her engagement ring story.

‘Many clients today are choosing to refresh their rings to mark milestones, whether an anniversary, a personal achievement or a new chapter, rather than waiting for a traditional proposal moment.’

Meghan and Prince Harry put on a very loved-up display as they joined Queen Latifah, Barack and Michelle Obama, Tyla, Vin Diesel, and Ludacris for the basketball match at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles on Sunday.

The Sussexes were all smiles as they were swept into the VIP entrance and led to their VIP seats in the same row as Queen Latifah and her partner, Eboni Nichols.

Royal fans had the clearest glimpse of Meghan’s new ring when the couple were approached by the NBA’s social media team, prompting the Duchess to rub Harry’s arm and nudge him to pose.

The last time she wore the ring was in October 2025, when Meghan attended a World Mental Health Day festival in New York.

It was visible when Meghan took the stage at the event run by Project Healthy Minds, where their non-profit Archewell Foundation was hosting three panels.

While it has yet to be identified, the massive ring is believed to be different to the pear-shaped accessory with a moonstone that Meghan debuted last year.

Meghan was seen proudly sporting the £3,185 ring – speculated to be a birthday gift from Prince Harry – when she attended a charity concert at Kevin Costner’s oceanside estate in Santa Barbara last September.

The newest oval-cut addition to her jewellery collection ‘feels much more like a self-purchase’, said Trang.

The jewellery designer added: ‘Compared to her engagement ring, the stone appears noticeably warmer in tone. If it is a diamond, I would expect it to sit within a lower colour range, which is actually very on-trend at the moment.’

Despite the size of the diamond, approximately between four and six carats, the ring’s refined, heritage-inspired setting makes it feel ‘elegant rather than ostentatious,’ she told the Daily Mail.

‘If confirmed natural and self-purchased, this could subtly signal a shift in personal narrative or a new chapter she’s choosing to mark independently,’ the jeweller concluded.

When Prince Harry proposed to Meghan in 2017, he designed the ring to feature a cushion-cut diamond, estimated to be between 2.5 and 3 carats, that he had sourced from Botswana – where the couple took their first holiday together.

Surrounding the main stone are two smaller, round diamonds from Princess Diana’s personal jewellery collection.

This was another special and sentimental touch, with Meghan revealing that it was ‘important’ for her to know that Harry’s late mother was ‘a part of this with us’.

Less than two years later, the engagement ring was modified as Meghan showed off its new design at Trooping the Colour in 2019.

The £120,000 sparkler featured a considerably thinner band at the time.

In 2022’s Finding Freedom, Omid Scobie claimed it was the Duke of Sussex who had made the first alterations to Meghan’s ring. Harry commissioned jeweller Lorraine Schwartz to resize and reset the ring with a new diamond band.

The refreshed design featured a thin, micro-pavé band instead and was paired with a conflict-free diamond eternity band, which symbolised their expanding family.

In 2022, there was further speculation that Meghan altered the ring for a second time when she attended the Invictus Games in The Hague, and it appeared that she had added additional diamonds to the setting surrounding the central diamond.

The ring was notably absent during several of Meghan’s appearances in 2023, when a loose stone was reportedly being repaired.

Last year, eagle-eyed royal fans noted that the ring’s central diamond looked more like an emerald cut than the original cushion cut when it was seen in a trailer for the Duchess’s Netflix series, With Love, Meghan.

While some suggested it had been modified for a third time, others speculated it may have been a replica of her original to avoid any possible damage to it while cooking.
