M&S has divided customers by putting out Christmas stock over three months in advance of the festivities.

A social media user noticed festive wrapping paper, cards and candles made their way onto a shop floor in Manchester last week.

After visiting the M&S in Lowry Outlet Mall, the shopper shared photos of the Christmas products on shelves.

These included the brand’s Mandarin, Clove & Cinnamon fragrance, sets of Christmas cards and candles decorated with gingerbread men.

They then posted them on a private Facebook group – where members were divided over the arrival of Christmas products in late August.

One fumed: ‘Yes, M&S is now full of Christmas stuff.’

Another added: ‘They are needing to get a grip, it’s ridiculous.’

Meanwhile, a third said: ‘I went to buy something for summer.

‘A worker said all the summer things have been taken down to get Christmas ones in. I told her they’re a joke.’

However, others were in support of Marks and Spencer’s festive preparations.

‘It’s never too early,’ one fan argued.

‘Lots of people just don’t have savings so they have to look around for bargains,’ another said.

‘It’s good for people who get paid monthly as you only have four payments to get everything,’ a third wrote.

Shutting down the critics, a fourth replied: ‘You don’t have to go look or buy anything so why is everyone moaning about it? [You’re] scrooges.’

Last month, Home Bargains was slammed by customer for putting up Christmas displays at their store in Denbigh, North Wales before the August bank holiday.

The store manager defended the move by saying it will help shoppers spread the cost.

They said: ‘Christmas can be an expensive time of year for most of us. With the cost of living, we have decided to land Christmas a little earlier this year to help our customers spread the cost.’

Managers of the store rationalised the decision, saying it would help customers spread the cost during these financially precarious times. The store had all things Christmas on sale from décor to items for pets

But not everybody is feeling the festive spirit as some customers have now branded the early start as ‘just wrong’.

One woman said: ‘I love Christmas. But this is just wrong.’ Another said: ‘They will have Easter Eggs in next.’

Meanwhile, a garden centre was branded ‘silly’ for opening the doors of its Winter Wonderland display in August.

Staff at Summerhill Garden Centre in Basildon, Essex, put up trees, bright lights and tinsel – despite temperatures reaching 32C at the time.

They claimed they had been receiving enquiries since June, with one customer even claiming they will be travelling down from Scotland to get their hands on festive decorations.
