  • Toyota Yarris pulled over during a police operation in Bradford, west Yorkshire

Police were left confused after pulling over a driver who had ‘wall papered’ his car to hide the damage from a car crash.

The officers found wallpaper and brown parcel tape had been used to cover the crash damage during an operation in Bradford, West Yorkshire.

The silver Toyota Yarris had one of its passenger doors bashed in the previous day.

But instead of taking it to the garage, the driver papered over the damage and got back behind the wheel.

He was reported for driving a vehicle in a dangerous condition and having a bald tyre.

The purge codenamed Operation Steerside saw police team up with Bradford Council’s Taxi Licensing and Enforcement Department along with the DVSA on Saturday night.

The Operation Steerside Team said: ‘Tonight (Saturday, February 3) we’ve been working with our partners from the Council’s Taxi Licensing and Enforcement Department and @DVSAEnforcement checking that vehicles were safe and roadworthy.

‘Various Private Hire Taxis and other vehicles were taken off the road after being inspected and defects being found.

‘Other drivers were dealt with for traffic offences such as failing to wear seatbelts, using mobile phones while driving and driving without insurance.

‘Highlight of the evening was this Yaris. Yes, that is wallpaper and brown parcel tape covering accident damage from the day before. It was prohibited from being driven by DVSA and the driver was reported for driving a vehicle in a dangerous condition and a bald tyre.’

West Yorkshire Police’s Operation Steerside Team has been dedicated to tackling dangerous and anti-social driving in Bradford since 2016.
