The mother of Nottingham attack victim Barnaby Webber said she will ‘never forgive’ a police officer who viewed bodycam footage of her son lying in the street after he was repeatedly knifed by triple killer Valdo Calocane.
The undergraduate, fellow University of Nottingham student Grace O’Malley Kumar, both 19, and school caretaker Ian Coates, 65, were stabbed to death by the paranoid schizophrenic during a city-wide rampage last June.
In an interview on LBC this afternoon, the bereaved mother, from Taunton, Somerset, said she had now discovered that an officer had viewed bodycam footage of her dead or dying son.
The force last night said a special constable had been sacked for viewing the footage.
Mrs Webber said: ‘The police have finally given us details yesterday, because we asked the chief constable and we got a letter last night containing details because we’ve heard lots of varying versions of it.

‘We’ve had an apology for us not being informed in advance, and then we had the detail of how seriously they take this, and officers are specially trained, lessons will be learnt.
‘But that doesn’t really help with the pain of knowing that people were viewing the bodycam footage of my son in the street and I will never forgive them for that.’
The development came 24 hours after Attorney General Victoria Prentis KC confirmed she had referred Calocane’s sentence of a hospital order to the Court of Appeal, after concluding it was unduly lenient.
Nottinghamshire Police said the special constable was sacked in December for viewing footage of the incident in Ilkeston Road, where Barnaby and Grace were attacked.
A letter from the force to Mrs Webber said an investigation found the officer had viewed footage on his police laptop in August – two months after the attack – which related to ‘officers and paramedics providing medical assistance to Barnaby and Grace at the scene, and after they had passed away.’
Mrs Webber said: ‘We are horrified and sickened to know that police personnel would think it’s appropriate to do anything like that’.

Earlier this week, The Mail revealed that two officers had been disciplined over a WhatsApp message one had written and the other shared, which detailed injuries suffered by the victims.
PC Matthew Gell was given a final written warning after being found guilty of gross misconduct last month.
A disciplinary panel was told the officer had sent the message on to his wife and a friend in another police force, and had also ‘trawled’ Calocane’s custody record despite not being involved in the investigation.
The officer who wrote the message was dealt with informally and carried out ‘developmental learning’.
A source told the Mail the special constable’s misconduct hearing was held in private and chaired by Chief Constable Kate Meynell.
The sacked officer has been barred from working as a police officer in the future.
To the fury of the victims’ families, prosecutors accepted Calocane’s pleas to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility after four psychiatrists concluded his schizophrenia led to an abnormality of mental functioning and impaired his ability to exercise self-control.
The 32-year-old graduate was sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court last month.

Addressing the Attorney General’s decision to refer the sentence to the Court of Appeal, Mrs Webber said: ‘We don’t dispute that he was mentally unwell, but we do dispute that he was in psychosis and diminished to the point of no culpability and we are relieved to hear the news from yesterday.
‘His sustained actions, the aggravated manner of his premeditation and lots of other reasons that we are aware of make us firmly believe that he knew what he was doing.’
Deputy Chief Constable Steve Cooper said: ‘Nottinghamshire Police has carried out a thorough and extensive investigation into those who viewed material related to the Nottingham attacks which had no policing purpose to do so.
‘Two officers have faced misconduct hearings as a result.
‘For clarity, the investigation has found that no one has ever shared any images or video in relation to these horrific attacks.’
