Cringe-worthy footage shows Vladimir Putin singing the national anthem on stage alongside Russian youth.

The Russian leader can be seen standing on a stage surrounded by a choir in a new video taken in Moscow today.

The teenagers both on and off stage were clapping their hands while shouting ‘Russia’ over and over again.

Eventually one of the girls in the choir onstage started singing the national anthem while Putin held his microphone towards her, with hundreds in the audience quickly joining in.

The Russian president himself started singing, smiling as he awkwardly as he muttered the words off-key.

The audience, which was mostly dressed in traditional Russian costumes and held small Russian flags, applauded enthusiastically.

The cringe-worthy performance came as Putin attended a meeting on the implementation of a federal project to create a network of modern university campuses via video conference at the site of the Russia Expo forum today.

Earlier today Putin was captured signing a giant dog sculpture while surrounded by children and teenagers.

The Russian president previously showed off his questionable vocals when he joined a sing-a-long with students at Moscow State University in 2017.

He sang a brief excerpt from a Soviet-era space exploration song called ’14 minutes to the launch’.

Putin was visiting the university as part of Students’ Day in Russia when one student began playing a guitar.

Holding a microphone, Putin sang: ‘On the dusty paths of distant planets, our tracks will remain.’ Putin stumbled as he sand the traditional Soviet song.

His efforts were met with a round of applause from those in attendance.

The song was written in 1960 and became synonymous with Yuri Gagarin’s space journey in 1961. The same song was performed in space by Russian cosmonauts in 1962 and until today is loved by many Russians.

It was also performed in space a year later by Russian cosmonauts and remains popular with the public.

In 2010, when serving as Russian prime minister, Putin sang ‘Blueberry Hill’ at a children’s charity event with celebrities like Sharon Stone in the audience.

He also performed the song’s the opening notes on a piano.
