A farmer turned up at the homes of the thieves he caught on CCTV stealing eggs from his farm and demanded them back after he tracked them down.

Dunne’s Farm in Maynooth, Ireland, was targeted last Saturday by two men who took advantage of their honesty box which allows people to take crates of pasture range eggs and drop the money in the box.

However, owner’s Norman and Michael had installed CCTV and caught the pair red-handed as they made away with nine boxes of eggs – 270 individual eggs in total- and two bags of spuds.

The hooded pair parked on the road and made weak attempts to hide their faces during their heist but Norman and Michael identified them and turned up at their house half an hour later.

The egg snatchers looked shocked and embarrassed as they gave back the eggs and potatoes and paid for the ones they no longer had, apologising profusely as their faces turned a deep shade of crimson.

The video shows the two men - who the farm owner's claim told them they were Romanian - run over to the egg stand

The second clip shows the men opening to door to the owners of Dunne’s Farm who demanded they return what they had stolen.

They looked humiliated as they handed over the stolen goods and pleaded for forgiveness.

One of the owners posted the footage to their social media accounts and said: ‘Another one for the wall of shame. This is the reason there were no eggs left yesterday for anyone else.

‘They thought by parking on the road and covering their faces they would get away scot-free. Wish i had a video of the shock on their faces when we showed up to their lovely house within 30 mins.

‘Not all eggs and potatoes were recovered but they had to pay. These people walk amongst you. And are always really really sorry! Only Sorry they got caught.

‘If you steal, expect a call an expect to be tarred and feathered.’

Some people were delighted to see the thieves caught with some vigilante justice, as one person said: ‘Just brilliant, well done. Makes me so angry to see.’

Another said: ‘Selfish behavior destroying community spirit, won’t fly here. Some folks think rules don’t apply to them. Entitled mindset. Shame on them! Those eggs aren’t for the elite, they’re for everyone! Keep up the good work, Dunne’s Farm!

‘Why always the masks?’

‘Nice big house but can’t afford eggs… I’ve bought every egg I’ve ever eaten yet don’t own a home. Ah I see what I’m doing wrong,’ another quipped.

But some were less impressed with the way the farm owners handled the situations.

One said: ‘As an owner of a small business I wish you had reported to the Gardai as it helps protect us all when they get a conviction. When they get away with theft with no repercussions then they become repeat offenders. Scum like these have no place in our Ireland.’

Another wrote: ‘Report them to the Guards people like them need to be taught a lesson.’
