Lorraine viewers sunk their claws into a ‘horrendous’ hair makeover on Wednesday’s episode.

A viewer named Matty appeared on the show to receive an 80s-style hair makeover in the wake of the popularity of shows like Rivals and period drama Joan starring Sophie Turner.

Her makeover was teased throughout the episode before she emerged at the end alongside the hairdresser Richard.

Lorraine was full of praise for the makeover, saying it made Matty look younger while fellow guest Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York thought it made her look like Princess Diana.

Matty herself was thrilled with the new look, saying: ‘I love it, I absolutely love it.’

Richard predicted 80s-style hair could make a comeback, saying: ‘The modern twist is to have it long enough to tuck it behind your ears. I think this is really going to take off.’

But viewers took a radically different view, saying: ‘That haircut looks f***ing horrendous – like she’s been dragged backwards through a hedge!’

Another unimpressed watcher declared: ‘They’ve made her look 20 years older.’

Others wrote: ‘Bloody hell, just sing her up for a care home now, she looks so old now’… ’80s hair needs to stay in the 1980s.’

Some viewers thought they’d made Matty look like former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

‘She’s been Hillary Clinton’d, f***ing hell’… ‘She looks like just like Hillary Clinton.’

It comes after Lorraine was left mortified after her husband called into her show to correct a blunder during a recent episode.

The presenter, who has been married to Steve Smith for 32 years, was interrupted mid broadcast after she received a text from her husband after he noticed a mistake in a previous segment on wildlife photography.

Alerting her viewers, Lorraine told fans: ‘News just in, my husband has given me a text and said “that was just a badger, it wasn’t a honey badger”.’

Seeing the funny side of her husband’s interruption, Lorraine looked back at the picture of the badger as she concluded: ‘Yeah ok, fine. Moving on.’

The ITV star occasionally shares snaps of herself alongside Steve, who is a TV cameraman, to her Instagram but their relationship has mostly been kept out of the public eye.

The pair married in 1992 and share one daughter, Rosie, 30, who welcomed her first daughter and Lorraine’s first granddaughter back in August.
