Harrowing footage shows the moment a female police officer in Belfast is viciously attacked by a dog as her colleague and the hound’s owner desperately attempt to loosen its grip.

The large white dog managed to latch itself onto the policewoman’s foot and held on despite being yanked from the tail and hit on the head with a baton.

Two officers had arrived at a property on Silverstream Avenue, in the north of the city, last Wednesday, June 26, but were greeted by a dog aggressively barking.

It was then that the dog champed into the female officer’s foot and wrestled manically with her.

The moment, which has since gone viral, was captured on CCTV.

After walking through the courtyard to the property’s front door, the two police officers got no response.

As the male officer got back through the gate and onto the pavement,  his female colleague was left alone out the front when she finally got a response amid loud barking from inside.

The two women appear to have a brief conversation until the dog runs out from the house and latches on to the officer’s foot.

It then begins shaking aggressively, attempting to maul the policewoman’s leg as she tried to kick off in self defence.

The female officer’s colleague then rushes over, drawing his baton and striking the dog in an attempt to assist as he can be heard yelling: ‘Get your dog, get your dog.’

Meanwhile, the other officer begins yelling in pain as she grips a fence for support, demanding that the resident do something as attempts to hit the dog with the baton falter.

The owner finally steps in to help and begins hitting the dog with a broom and feebly tries to pull her pooch away by the tail.

The hound continues to not let go even as its victim is all-but out the gate as it is closed onto the dog’s skull.

Screaming in pain, the female officer continually demands: ‘Get the dog off me. Oh my god.’

Desperately, the male officer suggests that the resident ‘hit it in the face or something’ and hands his baton over the fence before his partner urges the dog’s owner to hit the animal harder.

She replies: ‘I told you not to f***ing come in. He would never do that.’

The officer finally prizes her foot out from her boot, which the dog takes away and continues to chew on.

The resident breaks down crying, and can be heard saying, ‘f***ing hell, f***’s sake’ while her pet continues to run around the garden.

However, the dog then begins trying to jump the fence, coming dangerously close to the male officer’s face, prompting him and his partner to quickly back away.

The video ends with the two officers maintaining their distance and the resident trying to calm the dog and lure it back inside the house.

The female officer reportedly suffered minor injuries, with police stating that the dog warden had been contacted and inquiries were ongoing.

The video footage of the attack was shared to social media on Tuesday and received over 640 likes and more than 330 comments from shocked social media users.

One said: ‘It’s not bad dogs, it’s just bad owners. Apparently, every bad dog owner gets a pit bull.’

Another added sarcastically: ‘Another open and shut case of bad owners.

‘A good pit bull owner would never allow a pillow to fall off the bed and startle the dog causing a murderous frenzy. Completely avoidable.’

A third wrote: ‘I’ve seen videos of those things still attacking after getting stomped by a horse – tippy taps with the baton from ol’ Fishwrist McGee over here are worthless.’

Another commented: ‘I’m surprised the cop and owner couldn’t get the dog off them with all that gentle tapping they were doing.’

A fifth replied: ‘Yeah, let’s ignore statistics and keep breeding these monstrosities.’

A Police Service of Northern Ireland spokesperson told the Belfast Telegraph: ‘Police are aware of a video circulating online after an officer was bitten by a dog whilst on duty.

‘Officers were at a property in the Silverstream Avenue area of north Belfast on Wednesday, 26th June when an officer was attacked by a dog.

‘The officer sustained an injury to her foot after the dog latched onto her boot. Another officer who was present at the time of the dog attack thankfully was not injured.

‘The dog warden has been contacted in relation to this report and enquiries remain ongoing.’
