This is the shocking moment an Asda shopper smashed a vegan protester’s megaphone during a protest against eating Easter lamb. 

Protester Ella Wild was taking part in the demonstration inside the supermarket branch in Canterbury, Kent, when ‘an angry man’ grabbed her hailer, hurled it to the floor and stomped off. 

She was with a group gathered to warn shoppers of the way animals are killed for meat at Easter – and to protest the use of animal products like dairy and eggs. 

They were holding up screens showing footage of animal slaughter while Ms Wild spoke through the megaphone, when the man saw red.  

Astonishing footage uploaded to Facebook shows him wordlessly snatching it from her as she was mid-sentence, talking about how animals are celebrated at Easter – yet also eaten.

He uses force to yank it out her hands as she resists, knocking her to the side before throwing the megaphone to the floor, where it smashes into pieces. 

Her fellow protesters quickly run to her defence, with one shouting at the man as he goes to storm off, ‘Hey, what is wrong with you? You’re an idiot!’. They went on to continue protesting after the moment of violence. 

While some in the comments section said the group were in the wrong for being in the store, others described the man as a ‘stereotypical meat headed, meat-eating man-atrocity’.

In the clip, the man storms off after his moment of fury to the shock and bewilderment of shoppers – and even some Asda workers themselves – nearby.

The person filming says, ‘A violent person’, as they follow the man with the camera as he walks away. 

Store staff and security then come over to talk to the protesters, while Ms Wild picks up the pieces of the broken megaphone. 

One protester says, ‘We have a right to be here’, as the group has a discussion with staff about contacting the police. 

Many who saw the footage on social media said the man was wrong for being so violent – but the group should not have been in the store protesting in the first place. 

One said: ‘Don’t agree with the man breaking the megaphone… but the staff should have kicked the protesters out because a megaphone in a store about what people eat is just ridiculous.’ 

Ms Wild replied: ‘It’s a protest against animal cruelty.’ 

Another person commented, ‘Not needed in a store in my eyes’, continuing: ‘You should have been kicked out the moment you stepped in the store.’

Ms Wild responded to their remark too: ‘You pay for it, so you should be fine with seeing it… 

‘The animals have to live it. If you don’t want to see it, imagine what it’s like for them, and they’re just babies.’

She added: ‘We stayed and continued with our protest to raise awareness for the sentient beings harmed for meat, dairy and eggs.’

Someone else said: ‘Protesting is fine, but shouting and protesting is causing a ruckus to other customers. Do it outside.’ 

Others were not so kind to the man who grabbed the speaker.

One person said: ‘He came in for an extra large tub of margarine and some Kleenex. He stayed for the casual violence.’ 

Another added: ‘Big brave bloke goes for girl with megaphone. The standard of what passes for a man these days is just effing pathetic.

‘Whether you agree or disagree with the protest in question, attacking a girl is just the weakest of acts.’

Someone else replied, ‘I mean that’s 100 per cent criminal damage’ – while another described him as a ‘wimp’.

Another said: ‘Pretty much sums up a stereotypical meat-headed, meat-eating man-atrocity.’

But there were some people in the comments section who felt the man had been provoked to his act of fury. 

‘You’re using a megaphone to cause a loud disturbance in order to “raise awareness about animal cruelty”‘, one said.

‘I’m vegetarian and I am proud to be, that wouldn’t cause me to try and turn others away from their decision.’

Another person added: ‘Causing disruption is not going to help your cause, probably the opposite.’

Someone else chimed in: ‘I expect it was more about you shouting in his ear with a megaphone, you were less than arm’s length away.

‘You’re silly if you didn’t expect some sort of reaction.’
