This is the shocking moment a former Traitors contestant attacked a waitress after sinking two bottles of wine with a friend.

John McManus, 51, who appeared on the first series of the BBC show, was arrested following the horrific attack outside a seafood restaurant in Edinburgh in May 2023.

The spa therapist and actor was asked by a waiter to keep the noise down after he was heard swearing with his pal, who were sat next to a table with young children during a dinner service at The Ship On The Shore seafood restaurant.

Staff said that as the pair were leaving, Mr McManus ‘got up in the waiter’s face and called him a c***’  before the two engaged in a huge brawl outside the restaurant.

CCTV footage, obtained by The Sun, shows the moment the former reality TV star unleashed a barrage of punches on the waiter and then, after appearing to leave, ran back into the restaurant and pulled a waitress to the floor by her hair.

A source told The Sun: ‘John was swearing and using the F-word a lot – they were seated next to a table with young children and it wasn’t appropriate.

‘A waiter went over to ask them to keep the noise down.

‘He walked away and John started badmouthing him to the other waiting staff – saying he would not leave the restaurant without ‘doing’ something to him.

Mr McManus then insulted the waiter before leaving, which caused a fight to break out between the two men.

CCTV footage captured the moment McManus pulled the waiter outside and began hitting him in the face.

The source added: ‘A female member of staff had come outside to see what was happening, she didn’t even say anything to him and McManus grabbed her by the hair and dragged her to the ground.’

Mr McManus was arrested at the scene shortly after the fight broke out.

He pleaded  guilty to two charges of assault at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on December 15.

He was fined £470 and ordered to pay the waitress, who now suffers PTSD following the brutal assault, £600 in compensation.

A friend of the waitress told The Sun she was forced to leave her job at the restaurant as she was left ’emotionally scarred’ by the incident.

She was also scared to leave her own home following the attack and ‘cried for three days straight’, the source added.

The friend said: ‘She has a constant headache which her GP said is a symptom of PTSD. She struggles to work because of the headaches.

‘She is currently in therapy and is worried she will have to leave the hospitality industry.

‘The compensation he has been ordered to pay will barely cover the fees for the therapy she has had to have because of his actions.’
