A stunning drone video has captured a freight train travelling across a pink salt lake.

The incredible aerial images were captured by filmmaker Vadim Makhorov. They show a train carrying salt through Lake Burlinskoye in the Siberian region of Altai Krai, close to the border with Kazakhstan.

The train runs on tracks built just below the water’s surface, with the lake’s intense hue helping to give the scene a fantasyland feel.

‘The water turns pink due to small crustaceans and microalgae that breed only in very salty water.

‘The concentration of salt in this lake is 200 grams per one litre.

‘Kitchen salt has been extracted from the lake since 1768, and nowadays the volume of extraction makes up 65,000 tons of salt a year.

‘They literally scrub the lake bottom and bring the mixture of salt and silt into the train, which gets into the water along the railway.

‘When you watch it for the first time, it looks so bizarre!’
