Snow has made a return to Britain despite the start of Spring after the Met Office also issued a warning about rain and strong winds around the country.

The Met Office has forecast snow in the coming days, mostly over hills, with up to 10cm possible in Scotland, Wales, North West England, South West England and Northern Ireland.

Photographs from this morning already show parts of Derbyshire being battered by snow, blanketing houses and roads – and continuing to fall.

Umbrellas are also seen out in London as commuters battle heavy rain, while drivers have had to splash through flooded roads in Maidenhead.

It comes after the Met Office put out a yellow weather warning for rain and wind earlier this morning which they said could lead to transport disruption and power cuts.

The Met Office has said today will bring rain and hill snow in the southwest, spreading northeast and turning heavy at times, with blustery showers following.

There will be showers in the far north and generally it will feel breezy and cold.

Tomorrow will remain unsettled with outbreaks of rain, which could be snowy over the hills.

Forecasters say there will be some brighter interludes, but it will still feel cold.

Winds will ease on Sunday conditions will be drier for most, although a few showers are still possible.

And Brits will not get relief from the wet weather next week – although temperatures will slowly go back to closer to average for the time of year.
