Stunning treehouse with its own slide set in 'magical woodland' goes up for sale for £2million

A ‘magical woodland’ luxury retreat featuring three award-winning treehouses along with hot tubs, slides, saunas and pizza ovens has gone on the market for £2million.

Carpenter Guy Mallinson has spent a decade creating and adding to the eco haven across nine acres of woodland and four acres of meadow in Holditch, Dorset.

The retreat currently operates as a holiday business where people can stay in the peaceful countryside for at least £495 a night or £1,485 for a weekend.

Now, all three properties and the surrounding land within the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty are going on sale with a guide price of £2million.

The first Woodman’s Treehouse created in 2016 is in an ancient oak tree, coming with a rooftop sauna and hot tub as well as a revolving wood-burner and tree shower.

This treehouse cost £150,000 and took five months to build in a project led by Mr Mallinson alongside a team of 20 top craftsmen as well as his teenage sons.

The property, which is located about ten miles away from the Jurassic Coast at Lyme Regis, also has a slide down to the woodland floor and a two-person swing.

Two further treehouses were added to the resort in 2020, including the Pinwheel Treehouse which has glass-topped rooms located in a corner of a bluebell wood.

The third, the Dazzle Wheelhouse, has a gangplank walkway with a yacht deck floor and is inspired by a pattern used to conceal naval ships in the First World War.

Mr Mallinson was previously based in Fulham, West London, and worked on buildings such as Walt Disney’s London headquarters through his business Mallinson Ltd.

He then moved his family to Dorset with the aim of bringing up his children in the countryside, which led to him completing a long-held dream of building a treehouse.

Speaking to Country Life, Mr Mallinson said: ‘Building in the middle of a woodland presents its own challenges getting materials deep into the forest. We have always had a policy of treading very gently on the forest floor with no chemicals or concrete.

‘We used screw piles instead of concrete foundations which enabled us to secure the treehouse stilts between the tree roots with minimal soil disruption.

‘I am very proud of what we have created but feel it is time to pass it on to someone else who can take this business to the next level while I return to my workshop.’

Kevin McCloud labelled it a ‘glamourous woodland funfair’ when it appeared on his series in 2017 – and it has won two Royal Institute of British Architects awards.

A note on the property’s website says: ‘After 15 years of creating our wonderful oasis and welcoming guests to our magical woodland, the time has come to pass it on.
